Well the handle that adjust the back of my seat broke the other day. I guess from pressure of people leaning on it going in and out of the vehicle. The metal actually snapped.

It's the lever on the driver's side seat which adjusts the angle of the seat back.

Now do I need a new seat or is there a part assembly I can purchase. HELP.

This is for a 97 XLT V8. Grey interior.

I have the same problem for a 1992 anyone know if there is a way to fix that?

are you sure its just the lever? i had a simillar problem in my 94 xlt and it wasnt the lever the chair frame snaped right near it causing the seat to go back

This is a very common Explorer problem. I ended up making my own shorty lever, that is a little more out of the way. At a 1/4 thick it won't break like the thin stamped stocker.

I had the same problem as TheWishKah my seat frame broke. There was a small metal pin the held the seat back together. You can remove the whole fabric portion of the seat by unclipping it from the bottom and sliding it up. You shouldn't have to lift it all the way off to look. Unless you have the seat lever in your hand I would check this. I fixed mine but removing the plastic retainer the pin went through and placed a large bolt and nut and lock washer in its place. If you do this use a good quality bolt and as large as you can. The last thing you want is to be laying down while driving down the highway. Or don't be as cheap as me and buy a new seat!!!

Just my 2 cents!
