help.. squeek on startup .. not pully related

I don't know about that. My IAC was bad and made the "Ford mating call" but I've never heard of it doing the high pitched, bird chirping noise that the problem Dreamr and I had does.

The thing that is different about my truck is that it only does the bird chirp on acceleration when the engine is cold. It NEVER does it at idle. All of yours did it at idle, correct?

AGHHH...I was so happy with this new dealer at first (Shawnee Mission Ford) but now I'm pretty mad and I may try another dealership next time. I took the damn truck there Friday night, they started looking at it Saturday afternoon. They had to order parts that didn't arrive until Monday, so they tell me "it'll definitely be done Tuesday." I go there at the close of business today and its not done yet. They're taking 5 days to do a dang 3-4 hour repair job (and that's being generous.) They tried to tell me I'd have to pay for the extra rental day too, that ain't happening. My truck better be quiet as a mouse when I start it up cold again finally.

That sucks. I don't know why they couldn't have ordered the part, and given you the truck back and had you bring it back in when the part arrived, as i'm sure you could have lived with "tweety" for those few days. But, that is the exact reason I hate dealerships. When they do warantee work, they only get paid what is determined by the jobs scheduled time, not how long it really takes, most of the time. That's why the pull crap like this, and then try to make people pay for extra days on a loaner vehicle to make up the difference.

Tell them to stick the extra day fee where the sun don't shine, and if they aren't done with it next time you go in, i'd tell them to get it all back together and pull it out of there.

What sucks is they're getting paid the same amount either way. The warranty is from an aftermarket company and has no connection with Ford. I pay the dealer the whole amount and then I get reimbursed by the warranty company. So I don't know why they pull this sh*t.

You can contest the time and charges with the warranty company, and even better, use a credit card to pay, and have them contest the charges in concert with the warranty company.

I'm not saying to skip out on the bill by doing this, just to make sure that they only receive what is deserved, beeing that they had your truck since friday, and seeing they had the part on monday, and it STILL wasn't done by tues. evening, thats a whole day they will tack on for "storage", since they "couldn't" do anything without a part( typical excuse ). of course most dealers hide their "storage" fees by just adding on to the labor or part, or by of course, adding fees for "loaners".

There are guidelines that a dealer or shop must follow, that is why there are "job schedules" out there, a determined time for any given job, so as to not allow some shops/dealers to "price gouge" or rip off their customers.

Yep, I'm going to talk to the service manager about it when I pick it up tonight. Its too bad, I liked the whole experience at this dealer other then this part of it. The service advisor was a real nice guy, just didn't get his guys fixing my truck fast enough. And whatever Ford dealer treats me well at this point is going to get my business for a long time because that's who I'll buy my Mustang from, hopefully next summer/fall.

I heard it at idle, but when cold it accelerated with the engine RPM untill warmed up.

I never hear it at idle, which makes me think I don't have the same problem.

Well I got my truck back. Man it was weird to get back into the thing after driving a Focus for 3 days. It was whisper quiet but the real test will be tomorrow morning when its cold. I'm glad I've got the warranty, here's my bill:

Parts (cam synchronizer) $207.21
Supplies $25
Labor $342.31
Sub total $574.52
Sales tax $43.95
Total $618.47

Their shop rate is about $90 an hour so that labor charge is right on par with around a 4 hour job. I've got 5K left on the warranty and you can be sure I'll be taking it back to the dealer right at the end to have every single thing under warranty checked out. Whew, I'd be in trouble paying all that right now if I had to. I was ready to complain about how long it took, but they charged me $0 for the 3 days rental so I'm happy with it. Took a little long but I saved putting miles on my truck and got great mileage with the Focus for a couple days, no big deal.

Glad to hear you got it back. I know the cost of a job like this is crazy, that's why if mine decides to go, ( it shut up after slathering it in lithium greese, been quiet ever since ) I'll be pulling it out and replacing the bushing (bearing) inside the housing myself, just like you would on a distributor. I'm suprised with the high rate of replacement on these things that no one has started offering "rebuilt" parts. I'm sure as time goes on and people start complaining, they'll get around to doing so.

so this sound is like a loud bird chirp?(sorry i just skimmed)

well uh oh..my 95 XLT is making a noise like that..lol

Sounds like you might be joining the club... :p

It's a common occurance, eventually happens to all the 4.0L OHV, and some 8 cyls, but people mistake it for a pulley or bearing since the drive unit is in the front on the 8cyl.

Started it up this morning and it was perfectly quiet, I'm happy. It seems to be running quieter as a whole, along with not making the bird chirp anymore. Nice to have it back running right.

glad to her it is all fine now...

Well I forgot one thing when I posted about being happy; they had the dang thing for 5 days and couldn't even take the time to wash it. That annoys me.

The service advisor has called me 3 times in the past 5 hours. It seems the mechanic left a specialty tool for the job still attached to the motor. He wants me to try and see if its still there. Ha. If its still there maybe I should sell it. Funny how he never called to update me or tell me my truck would or would not be ready, but he calls all the damn time when he wants something from me. I'm not answering the calls because I'm at work but I listened to the messages. I'll look for the part, but not while I'm working, when its 95 degrees out and I'm wearing black pants and a shirt/tie. He can wait...

Heh heh, when they want something, of course they will call. Similar to our wonderful government. if your in arrears on your taxes, they want the payment in full ASAP, or you have a visit by the authorities to come and collect your things and toss you in jail. But when they owe you, they don't send someone out with the check to your door, you have to wait for it...lol

I'd say keep it, only specialty tool I can think that would be needed for the job is the alignment tool for the drive unit, make em wait like 5 days for it if you do find it and return it, then tell them that it must have been their Carma..heh heh

Well I found the part they wanted, it was in that little black plastic tray that's right next to the hood latch. I wonder how much that part could be sold for. I'll probably just call and tell him I've got in the morning. He's going to come pick it up from me at work. I suppose I could take it to him and see if he'll give me a little something in return. Like waving the 25 year old age limit for renting an '05 mustang.
