Hey everybody. I've got a stock '04 Ford Explorer 2wd 4.0L. I was looking into getting a 3" body lift. I'm from Houston, so I checked out Offroad Unlimited as well as 4 Wheel Parts. Both stores told me that I was basically screwed because the '04 doesn't have enough mounting points. I've seen people with lifted explorers of my model year and I'm really just wondering how they did it.
Is there anyone who can help me out with this? Thanks!

I ordered one from a ranger today, I'll let ya know how it goes.

I'll be selling my Quick Lift rear struts as soon as my 2.75" springs arrive... The QLs are a two inch lift, and if you put larger tires - bingo - 3" lift. For the front ^^

Donner,
You're putting in 2.75 inch coils in the rear?

Keep us posted.
You're going to be on one hell of a rake by the way, with the rear raised the same as the front.
Just like the old A-team Van ;)

Of course! :) This is the last modification for the 03. And I'm physically exhausted trying to manage these vehicles... I got the permission to sell the TC after the 01 is complete. It can't be too masculine or the deal is off - so no real mods to speak of there except an add-a-leaf. Compromise, sheesh. :)

'04 expo lift

So if I were to get 3" coilsprings for the front and back, wouldn't the front dip lower than the back? I would think that would happen since the front is holding all of the weight from the engine. Am I wrong?

Hey, welcome! Some Exs dip more in front than others. What does yours look like now?

haha you gotta understand that I have no clue about lifts or suspensions or anything. As of now, I don't know what size tires I have, but I can find out a little later. My ex is completely stock at the moment, aside from some aesthetics, like a billet grill and HID's.
So what was meant by "rake"? haha. The car sits pretty level right now. I just can't decide what size springs to buy. I want my ex to be lifted, but i also want it to be level once i do lift it.
You'll have to excuse me if i ask a ton of questions. I'm pretty clueless.

A rake is when the rear of the vehicle sits higher than the front.
Which our X's are already on.
That's why alot of people lift the front to Level them out.
You can even notice on my X, I lifted 3 inches in the front, and 2 in the rear, and the rear is still a fair bit higher.

Do you think I can run those tires on stock 16" rims or do i need to purchase aftermarket rims with more backspacing? What else have you done to your ex?

My tires will fit on your stock rim, but I'd at very least recommend putting wheel spacers on. (and a lift)It would be to tight to turn your wheels otherwise.
Other than my lift, tires and rims I've only painted the bumpers and flares, put on a bug deflector, taken off the steps, and installed a stereo.
I ordered my body lift this afternoon, should be here next week, and I'm custom fabricating a rear tire carrier that can take my 33"s and a high lift jack.

:salute:

Cheers

Were are you going to mount the tire carrier? I want one but I don't want to ruin the exterior side panels.

When you say you bought a lift, do you mean you bought a body lift, a suspension lift, or some coilsprings? If you mean body lift, i have to ask where you got it, because as far as i know, they don't make a body lift for the 04 explorer.

I bought lift springs, which in reality. Is a suspension lift.
As far as the body lift, I ordered that today, from a ford Ranger, and I will be custom fabricating my bumper lift brackets to make it work.

I'm not even going to ask how you're going to pull that off. haha. Well i think i'll stick with what you recommended (springs) since I don't have tons of money.
