Hello, my 1996 Explorer, Eddie Bauer, 6 cylinder is dying fast and I cannot afford a newer vehicle because of divorce and losing my house. Could a transmission problem cause the engine to be hard to start. When the engine is cold it will crank and then start, but once hot, it cranks and cranks and cranks and sometimes will start. It seems like when this started a few months ago the transmission started to slip. Could this be related or two seperate problems.
My brother, a mechanic, has replace the mass air somthing, something on top of the engine that has 6 wires going into it. He also has said that it is not the fuel pump, because he can hear it working and once started it does not stall. It will run rough if i try to shift into reverse or drive and it does not shift right away, I will shift into 2nd, and then into drive and sometimes the o/d light flashes. Any help appricated, I am not a mechanic, so sorry about some of the description. Also, he has replace the fuel filter.:(
