I hope anyone can give me some info,

On way home from work yesterday, I noticed that there was a delay in shifting into 3rd gear, then after coming to a stop (at some traffic lights) whe pulling away it would not change out of 1st gear, so was revving very high.

So pulled over, and put transmission into park. Then into drive and nothing, no clonk or anything, also the same with reverse, 1 and 2. I also tried 4x4 high and low and then into gear but nothing.

Got recovered to home, after the vehicle was rolled back off the lorry, started engine and car went into drive, and then reverse, then nothing again.

Checked transmission fluid level which semed ok, colour is quite dark and seems to smell a bit (but I'm not sure what it should smell like).

Another point to mention is that it was due for a intake manifold gasket replacement as I was getting lean codes, so the check engine light was on. Upon checking the codes yesterday there was also a P1762 code (which I've found out is transmission problems...bit late now )

Any ideas for anything to start checking??? Or do this look like the end?

And to top it all off, I'd just brought a Haynes Repair Manual for the Ex...maybe I jinxed it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

OK...found out I should check the fluid level whilst idling, went out and started car and it whilst I was wating for it to warm up a little it went into drive and reverse ok. So rechecked the fluid level (with engine runing) and it is VERY low.

Will top up with fresh fluid this weekend and hopefully this hasn't caused a major issue.

OK...new update.

car only took just under 1 litre of ATF fluid, drove round the block and was fine. Cam back to a stop , then no gears again.

switched off and restarted and then had gears briefly (long enough to park) then nothing.

A little more diggin shows the P1762 code could be due to 'overdrive band'.

My question is if this was the problem, do the symptoms described sounds like that issue, or could it possibly be some kind of sensor?

Any help would be appreciated... :-(

sounds to me like the pump is toast. I could be wrong, and hopefully someone else on here has a better idea of the inner workings of your transmission than I do. When was the last time you changed the transmission filter and fluid? How many miles are on it?

Thanks for the reply MayJan, I've had the Exp since October (not sure if/when the previous owner had changed the ATF fluid and filter), it was going to get changed about 3 weeks ago when the oil & sparks were changed but the shop supplied me with the wrong fluid so it didn't get done then.

It's got 140k miles on the clock.

Drop the pan, and check the valve body bolts & gaskets. You might want to read the 5R55E valve body rebuild diary sticky on the top of this section. Do you have a 0 - 300 PSI test gauge? If so, check the main pressure & the EPC pressure with the test gauge before you drop the pan.
