So, yesterday, shortly after noon, I loaded up with my buddy and headed out to a local off-roading trail in my Ex. It was probably about 15 miles out of town, we went up there, conquered some really tough obstacles requiring 4low, and headed back to town. About ten miles out of town, I noticed the transmission starting to really have trouble shifting up, so I pulled to the side of the road to shut the car off and start it up again. Once I started it up again, the transmission shifter would go into all of the selections, but it would not engage any forward gears, only reverse worked. So my friend and I had to hike up to a little whistle-stop we'd seen earlier, and call another friend to come and get us. (No cell service)
My question here is; what the hell happened?
So in our off-roading, we used only the "1" selector, (i.e, not "D") and shifted back and forth from that to reverse quite a lot, but it gave us no trouble. Once we were back on the highway, when we slowed down, and then tried to speed back up, the car would shudder, like the clutch was catching and slipping. The transmission was professionally rebuilt by a local shop only a few months ago, as it was burning up the clutches, but I have since gone 120 miles away to college, and the car is ten miles out of town. I'm loading up my bike to go take a look at it again today, but there were no obvious signs of mechanical stress. It started fine, there were no leaks, and the Trans fluid looked fine.
Any ideas?
