Hey all
I got an 1996 Edddie Bauer edition Exp, and I am needing to know something.

The stock system in my EXP is all JBL (from the factory) and I noticed that my SUB is not working.

Now do you all think its the AMP?
or the SUB might be blown??

Also where is the AMP located at that runs the SUB and how do you remove the dash area where the sub is at???

Thanks

Hey! This happened to me a few times. For me, it was the connection problem, it was the little wires connected from the connector to the cone itself. My dad helped me out by re-soldering the wires and now it's working again. The 4-channel amp and the sub-amp is located at the back with the subwoofer. Your receiver is just a keyboard and a display. I hope this helps.

well damn.... heres what happend.

While I was removein the woofer outside casing to get the the sub,, the whole damn plastic broke off....prolly cheaply made... and to find out the 6.5" woofer was blown and not the amps. So now I just replace the 6.5" woofer, but I had to visit 2-different Radio Shacks to find a sub that was strictly an SUB... but I had to take it out of an RCA home speaker which I purchased for 30.00. It dont sound to bad..... I still dunno what happen to the stock woofer.. the voice coils smelled ok,, and the woofer looked great.. oh well.

So now does any1 know where I can get a new cover to hide the sub now,,, since I broke my stock one???

thanks

Dang dude! The grill is the only part you can take out without removing the whole rear quarter panel. I'm sorry you broke it. I wish you luck finding a new sub cover.

yea i know.. i didnt know the sub cover could come out w/o movin the whole casing,, untill I popped it out and the grill just came out.

It looks like I might have to make an molding out of wood and get carpet to match my interior. Basically do it professional... which I think I can make happen.

I did see an 10" MTX sub w/ molding for the EXPlorers.. its going about 150.00 for one...

well if it come push and shove.... i might have to go that route... but then again... there is always the junk yard..

thanks for your help :)

No problem. Glad I could help. If you go to the junk yard, remember to buy the whole rear quarter panel instead of the sub cover.

As far as your cover goes, what I did was make a new one out of a steel pipe, just some brake line I had lying around. I bent it to fit the opening, and then went to the fabric store and bought fabric that is the same color as my interior, then I hot glued the fabric to the brake line, and velcroed it back into place. It looks great, and I had to do this, because my sub has too much excursion and would hit the old grill. This new grill also doesnt block as much sound as the old one did. Good luck.

Oh the SUB cover is the only thing that broke... I wont have to replace the whole quarter panel at all. its the cover only... U almost scared me. :D

VAIRKING...
do you have a pic u can show me of your design on how you did it??? I jus want to get an idea.

Thanks

If you took the 6.5 Sub out of a home speaker, it was prob. a 8ohm speaker instead of the usual 4ohm speakers used in autos. If this is the case, your speaker is creating more resistance (less power) than a 4ohm speaker would produce. You may want to look at Crutchfield or other places to find a true 6.5, 4ohm, sub.

I think I have one, but it would be on my computer at school. I will do it tonight.

I am also interested in knowing about the 6.5 Radio Snack sub, please post Ohm rating and model number of RCA unit.

Okay, This is the first grill I made. I made it with some fabric I had around the house, so it didnt quite match. I should have taken a better pic, but the fabric just wraps around the wire frame, then it is held into place with velcro. I rebent the wire frame, so it fits a bit better than it looks in the picture.
