2003 explorer limited 4dr
Hi,
I am trying to purchase a rear differential rebuild kit (bearings only) for my 2003 ford explorer limited 4 door.
problem is that there are two different kits available for my vehicle. how do i know which kit to buy?
i have the information from the vin sticker. axle code 45 says that it is a 3.55 set of gears but i am only replacing the bearings.
one kit says 311. one kit says 335.
i wanted to order the kit before i tear it apart.
is there a way to measure my old cv axles to determine which kit or do i have to buy 2 kits and send the wrong type back?
any help would be great
thank you

update.
i bought both kits listed. the 311 and 335. the auto sales parts guy called Timken and they weren't sure which kit so I bought both kits. I will post what i find. Maybe the numbers correspond to number of splines or 2wd vs 4wd.still not sure. I know all of this sounds vague but we ran vin #s etc. Good thing is that they will accept returns on the unused kit and i can trade it for a front rebuild kit.

Thank you for the info. The kits are on the way. I am hoping that maybe the other kit will work on the front but most of the noise is from the rear. i did change wheel bearings and cv joints already. doing a little at a time.
