I have a 96 explorer sport trying to get it through inspection. Check engine light was on Code 153 so I changed the o2 sensor. I used one my dad bought many years ago because he said it was good. Drove the car light came back on I had the codes read and I had 153,133, 420. I bought a new o2 and put it on so to get the check engine light off I bought my own reader so before i cleared it I read the codes they were 133,153,420 and 122. I cleared the codes and did not go 15 miles light is back on and the code is 153. I need to get it inspected but at this point I am about ready to scrap the damn thing. I already put a new fuel pump, fixed both window motors and the car has 204000 miles it is my sons and I needed to last one more year about 7500 miles is all I need out of it and then he can park it. Someone tell me what to try and do next.

replace the other o2 sensor that the "last" 0153 code is complaining about.

p0153 is the driver side o2 sensor that is in the Y-pipe by the manifold. You may have only changed bank 1 sensor1 (passenger side), which would clear codes p0153. They only cost $25 on RockAuto.com (just bought and changed bank1 sensor1 on mine today) no more CEL light, so I would get a new one. If you just want to pass inspection, then get to the place, clear the codes before you drive in, and the CEL light won't get in the way...

Agreed- don't go by whether someone says an O2 is good or not. If the code is pointing there, I'd start with a suspect part in this case...

I wouldn't do that as then your emission system will likely "flag" a not ready condition and they will likely not pass it until the drive cycle has been complete.

ah didn't know that, thought it was a visual inspection for the CEL

Tried that

Tried the clear code check but did not work it got flagged but I replaced the o2 on the passenger side I guess i will try the drivers side.
