Ok guys I need some serious help here. I have searched the forums and found alot of info but hoping to get some more on this thread. Heres the deal; I have a 2000 X sport with V6 SOHC 71,500. miles. Since it has gotten cold the idle is horrible(but only when its cold). I changed the IAC and put new set of plugs (not wires) on it. I went to Advance Auto and had the codes read.
DTC (codes)
P1506-P0301-P0171 and P0174
DTC Pending (codes)
P0302-P0303-P0304-P0305 and P0306
The guy said that the pending codes should go away since i replaced the plugs. I guess my ? is; The first code P1506(Idle speed control) could it be makeing the rest of the codes? What I mean is would it be like a trickle effect. I use to build Transmissions for CAT and if we had a bunch of failures on the test stand then we would go back to the first one(failure) and that would usually fix other ones. The P0171 and P0174 codes are both banks reading lean, he suggest that i change the fuel filter. Could this be causing the horrible idle when cold? I also took the MAF sensor off and cleaned it, didnt seem to help it. When it was cold and idleing bad i unhooked the MAF sensor and it idled good. Im kinda wondering if the MAF is bad. Is there a way to check it? That thing cost 130.00 and I dont want to buy it if thats not what is wrong with it. I already paid 85.00 for the IAC and that didnt fix it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys

I wanted to add that i also changed the airfilter that didnt seem to help. And i am also getting around 16mph I think that is pretty good for it being 4x4.

Both banks leak together with idle problems sounds like you have a leak in the intake system that is allowing un-metered air in. Try changing the upper and lower 'O' rings. It worked wonders on my 98 SOHC.

Poor idle when cold is classic symptom of oom12 kit (upper and lower 'o' rings with new front cam chain tensioner ) required.

I just got off the phone with the local dealer and was told that if that 00m12 was the problem that it would make a horrible noise. I am not getting any noise. They told me that if that wasnt what was wrong with it that they would charge me 65.00 an hour and that it would be about 2 hours. I dont really want to take that chance to take it to them and say that wasnt what is wrong with it and oh by the way here is 130.00 bill for the diagnostic and there still be something wrong with it.

The noise bit is true for the tensioner. But I still think it sounds like leaking 'O' rings. I had P1074 code and some times running rich on that bank too. I did the oom12 kit myself (straight forward job 2hrs is reasonable) and a vast improvement. No more codes and no more rattle (which i did have a little). The reason I suggest changing the tensioner is that to do so you have to take off the inlet manifold anyway so might as well fit the new improved tensioner. Your x may still be covered under the oom12 scheme in which case the repair is free.

wooky, i was wondering if u tried the oom12 kit yet, because my truck is throwing codes p0171 and p0174 too, and i have emissions this month.
