Good thing I found this site, I'm going mad trying to find performance mods to do to my '97 Mercury Mountaineer. No one in the area really can help me with mods and programming with what I want. I would like to install a 351w Lighting supercharged engine or something similar. I might as well go ahead and take out the 5.0 that's in it. I snapped off the threads of a spark plug and had a machine shop remove the threads and install new valve springs. Also, since I'm on workman's comp right now, it's just sitting in my driveway taunting me.

I've read over some of the 351w swap threads on here, main concerns is headers and that I hope but doubt that the stock ECU can handle the engine swap. Enough of me rambling, let me know if anyone is in the Central Illinois area so I can have a support group to help my addiction.

Welcome to the site. Always nice to see another Mounty owner. I would suggest using your 5.0 and build a 347 stroker.

jtsmith has done this & I have had the oprotunity to ride in it. That thing is a beast!

Interesting...

I thought that 347's had thin cylinder walls. Depends on what falls in my lap, concidering I got an rebuilt engine for my old truck with 3000 miles for $200 and some stereo stuff. Anything is possible! I'll keep it in mind.

Thanks, later.

Welcome to the site!

I would like a 351 W also--problem is the deck height and oil pump clearance won't allow it without serious fabrication work. There is no oil pan available, for instance, also, the deck height will not allow for the stock blower-ac housing, and custom headers would have to be made.

A 347 is pretty much a bolt in swap--

4.030" bore X 3.4" stroke. The block will tolerate the .030" overbore. I used a new sportsman block, however, I really like the new 302 boss block.

I saw that...

earlier this morning. We'll see what comes about. Will be fun no doubt. Before anything bigger goes in, I need to go through the t'case chain, seals, and junk. Other than bamachips, who perfomance tunes the OBD II 5.0's?

This is fun.:D
