Hi Yal,
I just joined and I'm lookin to possibly do a 2WD to 4WD conversion on my 2000 model Exploder. I was looking at getting a whole different rig, but I thought maybe I could save some money doing a conversion. I actually like the Exploder I'm driving now, so I would be happy to make it a 4x4. Any advice or resources would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Flyboy
P.S.
Exploder is an affectionate name for my Ford Explorer:)

Welcome to the Forum.

The swap would be complicated. You would need to get a transfer case, new drive shafts, front axle, half shafts, new spindles, wiring, etc.

Welcome to Explorer Forum! It's been done before. Search around and you should find what you are looking for.

Well... I was thinking of finding a wreck that is good in front. Sure I know enough to open up the transfer case and front diff to check for damage from the sudden stop of a wreck before I use them. I'm pretty handy in the garage. I've restored two aircraft to better than new condition. That is much more involved than a front end swap on an exploder. (Anyone wan'a buy a sweet 59 model Cessna 172?) Anyway... I love your rig. Supper clean! What other stuff are you working on with the LED's? I have been doing some stuff with airplanes, but I never thought of cars. It makes good sense though.
