Merry Christmas and Happy New Year !
I am having a problem with my 98 explorer sport,,,,driving down the street and suddenly downshift and the tack goes to 4 thousand,,,,,then at times when accelerating it goes to four thousand on the tack and won't shift up even letting off of the accelerator,,,any ideas would be extremely helpful I'm sure,,thanks

Welcome to this forum! Do you have a check engine light or a flashing overdrive light?

No no indication any thing is wrong

Is worse if I don't warm is up ,,in the morning

Overdrive works just fine,,,

When was the last time the transmission fluid & filter were replaced? Make sure that you use Mercon V ATF. You will have to use Lubegard if the wrong type of fluid was added.

No I didn't adjust the band's,,,,how would I do that?

Thanks so much,,,working on the adjustments today after I get an in lb torque wrench. Be back soon tks dave

Also, check the throttle position sensor. It's output should rise steady with no obvious spikes. Check that the idle position voltage is less than 1 volt. When opening the throttle slowly the value should climb steady to around 4.5v
