2005 ford explorer XLT
I'm the original owner of a 2005 ford explorer xlt. This morning I came out to a fuel leak from a small 1/8" broken line lby the rear differential . what is this line/vent? brown in color with no sheath. any ideas...
And yes, the mess was cleaned up before it went anywhere.
I think an animal chewed it.

I'm not sure about the '05, but the 2nd gen Explorers had the fuel vapor recovery tank located in that area. My guess is that it's part of that system.

Thanks for the clue...I'll post my findings...

Maybe brake line? A photo of where that line connects would be very helpful.

Not brakes , fuel was leaking out of it and it is attached to the tank. had leaked quite a bit and a very observant neighbor put a bowl under it capturing a couple gallons of fuel. just really strange because the front gutter would have been filled if it wasn't cought early.
I'm dropping the spare and having a look around in the am.

Gas prices are up, somebody stealing yours?

You're done. The nearby critters have discovered wondrous gasoline. Leave a gas can out? They'll eat the cap, and maybe part of the spout. Don't put your lawnmower away? Holes will appear in the fuel tank.

After repairing fuel lines three times and replacing once (NTM buying new gas cans and repairing lawnmowers), the only only thing I've found that works 100% is to physically isolate the equipment from the critter. Hot pepper also works but is, many times, impractical.

Like crack, it's an addiction so the problem won't be going away by itself. Unless you move lol.

Honda makes a rodent proof tape you can wrap your prone hoses and lines in

Hi All,
Yup it was the vermin of society....
They went to drain the tank with a 1/8" drip irrigation line...
Somebody has no clue about fluid transfer rates and gravity...
And the underside of my 2005 explorer looks good.....130k miles
