The other night leaving work I noticed that one of my headlights was out. So yesterday morning I got the spare HID bulb I had and put it in thinking that it was the problem. It wasn't, the replacement bulb won't ignite either. My next guess is the ballast. My question is are all ballast the same? Can I mix one ballast with one from another kit from another company?

Yes, most HID ballast are universal for aftermarket kits.

in other words, most PnP kits are the same junk with different knock off brand labels...

The harness is just powering the ballasts, they don't have to match themselves. If the dead ballast makes a buzz and wont ignite, the ignitor probably died... If it just won't turn on, something else on the board inside is probably fried.

Having somewhat of the same problem your talking about. My passenger's side ballast was buzzing for a second when I turned the headlight switch to full on and the passenger's side wouldn't come on. So I swapped ballasts from the driver's side to the passengers side and it's doing the same thing. However when I took the passenger's side and hooked it up to the driver's side then it works fine. And still ever so often the passenger's side bulb comes on. So the bulb works and the ballast is ok, so what the heck can it be?

Are you running a harness?
