Hello to all the members,

Yes, I'm new to the site....but I've followed under the radar for a couple of months.

I have a question about my headlights. I bought a 97 Ford Explorer ED about 6 months ago, and the 1st thing I did was replace the stock headlights to HID's from DDm tuning. They worked great, and really cheap! BUT today I took my son to school and left the HID's running after I turned off the car.....they were running for 5mins until I noticed they were blinking.....So I turn them off. Then I left and turn the HID's back on but they did not turn on.......I get home noticed they were on....so I turn them off, and on.....again nothing starts up. I unplug on HID, and plug a stock one back on..turn the lights on....NOTHING. So then I took off the stock light off, and unplug BOTH HIDs just to plug one HID at a time...I had the left on ready, and I turn the lights on....POWER! so I go ahead, and plug in the right one.....then they both go out.....So I'm a little upset...I start over, and unplug everything. I plug in the stock lights back in on both headlights..turn on the lights....NOTHING..sighs. I try the brights, and I get lights!...sooo I unplug the stock lights, and plug in the HIDs back in but this time I run the power from the brights...I turn the car on with the brights, and the HIDs turn on...leave everything running for 5 mins and the lights are fine....but I want to fixs my lows....what am I missing, and yes I checked all the fuses in the dash, and in engine bay. I also did my research on this site, and google it....but I cant find anything like what happened to me...please help! TIA

The real HID's....DDmtuning.com . Soo I've been driving around town today with the HID's on....but using the "High beams" since my "low beams" doesn't work....I hope this makes sense...otherwise maybe I can shot a video later.

problem with hid kits is any hand oils or anything will break the bulb. the hid bulb also uses a lo beam hid bulb and hi hid bulb if you look at it you see the two different bulbs. you maybe have blown the low beams but more than leakly what it sounds like is from the blinking the blaster box may be no good.

i run 30,000k headlights and 30,000k fog lamps and ive never had a problem but i have a really nice kit. low end kits use horrible blasters

i dont know if that helps

i dont under stand looking at the website the blaster it looks like a relay after the box before the plugs that will controll the high lows and i can put money on it that the relay for lows are junk or since you say the low beams dont work on the regular head lamp bulbs, an high beams work you might of melted a wire or something bring out the flute meter to check voltage

hmmmm one problem...I didn't get the HID's with High beam....I only have low beams=HID's. I have the HID's connected to the "high beams" which I need to make sure my "high beam" are on....so my question is how to fixs my low beam....in general.

What's a "blaster"? I assume you mean "ballast".

ya ive alway called it a blaster. idk why but i do sorry for inconvince

you may have blown the bulbs hard to trouble shoot with out seeing

okay guys....the HID's still work....BUT when I connect them to my low beam they do not work....but If I connect them to my high beam they work!

So my low beam are out. High beams are good.

HID's still work...

You need to swap the pin in the blue connector. Its set up for the 9004 style bulb I believe. Once you do that, your low beams should work, and you will not have anything for the high beam. I can't remember which pins you need to swap around, but they are easy to do and take about 5 minutes.

nope thats not it dan.....I don't think I'm explaining everything correct....or you guys just don't understand....soooo here I go again..

I bought the HID's about 6months ago. I did NOT get the package that comes with both HID's, and stander high beam. I ONLY bought HID's. So basically low beams=HID's. I installed them when they came in....they worked GREAT for 6months....until the other day. I left the HID's running with out the car "engine" running....this caused my HID's to Flicker, and BOOM they did not turn back on....I took off the HID's put back on my old stander lights, and again NOTHING with the low beams. So I pushed the brights on, and I had light. SOOO instead I plug in the HID's into the high beam spot just so I can drive in night. They work. BUT I want to fixs my low beam....I checked all the fuses....how did I burn out the ability to use my low beams....

SO again it doesn't matter If I have my HID's or stander light bulb in my low beam spot neither work..I burnt out the a connection....or something please help....

its ok. there is nothing serious wrong. i have had the same problem on my 97 e.b. there is a low beam module controller box on the eb's underneath the msg center ont he floor. its on the divers side when you pull the message center out. one of the solders inside the box came loose. i had the same problem and same thing as you.

just pull the box out and open it up to the computer board and check the solder joints, look closely because it may just be a fine crack in the solder you have to fix. just resolder it back together and it is good to go.

Thanks Kfred! I will check tomorrow morning, and see how things go.

I have an extremely stupid question, but reading several threads on here have got me confused on the HIDs. Do you have to retrofit a projector into a headlamp housing or will the HID bulb fit into the factory plug?

KFred sounds right on, except my module (called a Lamp Outage Module, or LOM for search purposes) was actually mounted on the passenger's side after pulling the message center. If both low beams are out, you likely have at least two solder joints bad or possibly burnt. There is a wiring schematic floating around here somewhere to aid in trying to resolder. I ended up buying a used one off of another forum member, but even new from Ford they aren't too expensive (around 40 or 50 IIRC).

I dont have projectors......I only have the HID's into factory housing...plug & play...DDMTuning.com

yeah, that's the site I've been looking at, thanks for clearing that up!
