Whats the best Brake upgrade for 95-01 4x4 explorer Rotors, Calipers, Pads?
Must be ABS compatible and installed without a week of fabrication.

Ever consider slotter rotors?

John V at Explorer Express has a special going right now.

What you are going to find that there is no easy way to do a lot of common mods on Explorers. Brakes are one of those mods. They do not share suspension or brakes with F150, Mustangs or anything wih big brakes that would easily swap to the Explorer.

Many members have talked about this. We actualy had a kit for the gen 2 Explorers at one time at Explorer Express. It included PBR (Cobra) calipers and 13" custom Corvette Rotors. The kit did include custom brackets and diections on how to make the modifications. It did require a removing suspension compentnets for the purpose of drilling holes. We made two kits, one went on the blue Explorer X. Putting this kit together was a hassle. The list price was $1500! The kit sat on the shelf for five years.

In the meantime we realized that the Slotted Rotor/Performance Friction Pad combo worked pretty good for "real world" driving. Unless you have big wheels (20'-22") it is not worth the hassle. You can call BAER, BREMBO, STILLEN and every other brake manufacture in the world and you will hit a brick wall.

By the way HARTMAN, I can talk you through the brake upgrade with pictures and tech support because I know you are serious about doing it. We still have the original vehicle with the big brake at our shop.

Otherwise, my advise to caldi55. Do a search for any mods that you are thinking about before you make a post. You are likely to find a lot of conversation on anything you can think of, including brakes.

SSBC makes a big brake kit for Explorers if I'm not mistaken.
