Hi,

I'm from The Netherlands, Europe and have a really anoying high pitched wine coming from the engine bay (drivers side) on my 1994 Explorer. It appears after the engine warms up, and is there when standing still or driving with my explorer. Sometimes it droppes away and than appears again with a short higher pitch and than again the high pitched sound.
When i give drive away it is temporarily away but then it appears again.

It seems to me the sound is coming from the drivers side of the engine, above the exhaust...

I already checked :
The belt
The IAC, it runs better with the new one, but the sound stays there.

Anyone a idea?

Could more than likely be the idler pulley mine did the same thing.

I'm gonna look in my manual wat the idler pulley is and look at it...but the sound is more coming from the left side of the engine, so i'm thinking of a vacuum leak?

Also when you rev the engine while its in nuetral does the sound get higher pitched then go away.

When i rev the engine in neutral, the sound is (sometimes not directly) going away and than a second later it appears again.
When waiting in gear for a stoplight the sound get sometimes higher pitched...

So you still think it's the idler pulley? I'm gonna look at first thing in the morning...

Was yours the one that came apart and threw the belt off.

Nop that's not mine...

But i fixed the problem today! It was a leak in my crankcase ventilation filter ( i don't have a stock airfilter)...wo guesed that would make this horrible noise?!:D

 for al the help and tips!
