2011 XLT
I have a 2011 Ford Explorer XLT that I bought 6 months ago and I'm able to consistently achieve 27 MPG as long as I keep my speed between 65-70 on the highway. Anyone else have this experience?

I too have an 4WD XLT and if I pay attention and really feather the gas in those speed ranges I can get very close to 25 on the highway with some hills.

Today I have a 300 mile trip

Engine

Which engine do you two have? Gotta be the ECO Boost right?

The EcoBoost was not an option in 2011.

I have an XLT 2012 with eco boost, and 1500 mostly instate miles at 65-70 mph.
I checked this morning and I am at 25.2 mpg.

I have a 2011 V6 4WD and can't seem to get above 21 mpg on the highway. Very frustrating. On the other hand, my father has a 2011 FWD and consistently gets 25-26. I was hoping I would get the advertised 23 mpg highway. Should have just gone FWD.

This has been my biggest disappointment. I think the best MPG on the highway we have gotten is 22. I normally drive 75ish. Most of the time it is 20-21. I was really hoping for it to be at 23. It adds up over time. We routinely get exactly 17-18 around town so that number is right on.

A couple of months ago I posted that I was getting 25-27 on the highway with an overall of 24 (std v6 on 2011 Explorer Ltd with FWD). There were a couple of posts that questioned my numbers and implied that if I drove over 55 I wouldn't do that well. I replied that I do 65-70 on the HWY and use the cruise as much as possible.

I have had my 2012 4WD since middle of October and have put on just over 3000 miles. On two trips, 1200 miles each, we averaged ~20mpg. This was Kansas to Colorado on I-70 with the CC set to 79 (adaptive mode on). The first trip we got 19 going up and 21 coming back. The second trip was right at 19 going up and 20 coming back. Had some pockets where I was only getting 17 due to the wind. In city driving I am getting 18.

Our '06 Murano would get anywhere from 20 to 24 depending on wind for those KS to CO trips and only got 18 in town. But at least it had a 20 gallon tank. That is my biggest complaint with the Ex. 18.6 gallons doesn't provide enough range for a 20mpg average.

I get 21-24.5 mpg highway at 75-78 mph. I all depends on the wind. 24.5 was with a strong tailwind on a 350 mile trip. Return trip was 21 against the wind. I have V-6 4wd with 7500 miles.

On a recent trip to Florida I was getting anywhere from 8.2 to 9.0 Liter per 100KM, which is about 31 to 34 Miles per imperial gallon or about 25 to 27 miles per American gallon .No A/C, fully loaded and driver and passenger. Did the speed limit as posted, 60 to 70MPH and at times 55MPH
I would fill the tank get on the highway get up to speed and reset the computer to see my miles per gallon, used cruise all the time. From Orlando to Tampa on I4 speed at 60MPG cruise on no A/C was getting 7.4 L per 100KM or about 35 Miles per Imperial gallon or about 28 miles per American gallon. Must have been going downhill all the way? When I filled up the computer would tell me I would get 795KM per tank at the speed I was doing on my last tank full.
Never bothered to check by hand to see if the computer is correct but I do daily check when home and the computer is pretty close to my hand-paper calculations.
I have a 2010 FWD Edge SEL... 23,000KM or 14,300 miles

Yes, I have the v6 fwd and for whatever reason I can get 25-27 as long as I keep it between 65-70.

Hey you know what guys, nevermind, I live in the rio grande valley in south texas and there's not a single hill around here for at least 250 miles, so that pretty much sums up the reason why I can get up to 27 mpg.

Well, I'm getting between 25-27 too but no hills around here!

5000 miles on our FWD limited and I can't get over 22ish at 70mph. I'm wondering if the factory fill oil is thicker than the EPA rated oil?

You guys with low numbers, have you change oil yet?

I've just changed my oil to synthetic. Hope it does better with MPG now. 4wd 2011 and gets the advertised MPG.

Real MPG

I've a 2012 4WD LTD.

Driving a 75/25 ratio of highway/local driving, with highway speed set normally at 73-74, I have averaged 18.8 mpg.

I live and drive in Vermont, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Must say I'm a bit disappointed, but reality bites sometimes.

I use GPS and radar to track speeds and am careful to top off tank (made more difficult and time consuming by the annoying capless filler. The car's computer is pretty much spot-on to actual miles/speed and MPG when compared to other measuring tools.

2012 AWD, w/V6 the best or average around town 16.8, freeway, the best 18.9 no better. I have around 3k for miles. My same question, will the miles go up after the oil change?
