Mine from Autozone kept breaking too (had to replace 2 sets) , so I just got a scrap 2x4 and now that is my hood support.

Mine from AutoZone work great - then again they have been on less than 6 months.

Does anyone have a picture of the Rancho hood supports? I don't have an EE catalog and didn't see them online.

I just replaced mine last weekend. :)

I ordered them from fordpartsnetwork.com.

LH Part Number F67Z-16C826-AA $18.63

RH Part Number F67Z-16C826-AB $18.33

Don't ask me why the left one cost $0.30 more - I have no idea
:p

your not asking that b/c i said "geez, $40 a pop, you coulda thrown some rancho's on there for that price" are you?? if so, there are no rancho support shocks, i was just kidding around saying that they are almost as much as rancho's, so he should just buy them and stick them under the hood.;)

My hood supports are still holding strong but my liftgate supports will need replacing soon. I noticed that the stock support is sort of riveted to the body, any solutions for replacement?

been using the stick method for over a year now. works great!!! i even put a nail in it do hang a light on since ours didn't come with the little hood light. total cost = $0.00

I just got some from auto zone, one of them was already broken ah!! and the only way I could possibly get them to fit was to take a hammer to them which would just shatter them anyway.(yes I did try to install the opposite way the normal shocks are)

Took em right back...

Drill a hole through the shaft and stick a cotter pin through it. I trust that more than new parts anyway.

Unless yours has been modified from original, the rears are the same as the fronts, just bigger. Its pretty standard for a gas spring, it has a ball and socket joint on each end. The ball is on a bracket which is spot welded to the hatch and the body. The socket is held in place by a metal clip which you pry out. There are grooves in the end that allow you to remove it without completely prying it out on the hood supports, I think the hatch is the same. The clips are painted black, so they are harder to see.

I've had a rear window shock break before too. the little eye loop broke right in half. Luckily I was still able to stick the now "U" end support into the spot and it worked fine. I rarely used my rear window anyways and the pressure from the shock held it in place. I think I may also have to replace the door shocks soon. It stays up, but has a hard time coming out of the compressed position. Do they make Ranchos for these too?!

Got new support shocks form NAPA, they popped right on and work great.... They looked like the exact same thing from autozone but these actually work :D

I was not too impressed with the autozone hood supports. I replaced three of them in five weeks. They are plastic on the ends and break when you close the hood. I just ordered some from FPN for $40.00 a pair, and should be here by Friday. Sometimes buying Ford OEM is your best bet.

i'm going to do teh cotter pin idea! thats a great one, thank you.

I have the same kind that napa sells but got them from Autovalue parts store. $25 for the set. No problems yet after a little over a month. Major improvement.
