The cable release on my '02 XLT 4-door seems to be disconnected, nothing happens when I pull it. Tried pushing down on the hood while someone else pulls the release. Nothing.

How do I get the hood open? There's gotta be a bypass somewhere.

Thanx,

Sorry to hear you having problems with the cable release.. It is actually common for the latch mechanism to get kind of rusted in place from lack of use.. Ohter members have gone through the grill and removed the bolts holding the latch on. I would personally try squirting some DW40 into the latch to see if that will loosen it up..

I'll have to look for bolts in the grill.

Cable handle pulls full travel. I suspect it's no longer connected to the latch. The dealer may get to do the oil change I need this week.

rig it 70's style... no interior latch and just the exterior latch.... I should do it to mine I'm just too lazy...

have someone push down on the hood then pull the lever and then release the hood... mine got stubburn last year and it worked...

Good to go. Not sure what fixed it, but it works. I gave the latch a shot of grease when she came open.
