Hey guys, my hood wont open. To make matters worse i have to drive up to iniversity on new years and its a 2500 mile trip. Also its time for an oil change. AND to make matters worse, my airintake and 75 mm throttle body came in yeserday. Ok this is what happens. I pull the lever inside and nothin. The wire is still connected to the lever. If it makes any difference its a mountainner, V8 and is a 97. Please help.

Take a peek at Stuck hood latch thread for pics and info on how to use the manual overide.

I was just about to post "this happend to me", but that's obvious now. Pull on the cablewith some pliers and get someone to bang on the hood near the latch. It should pop up. hopefully.

manual overide wont work, grill goes up so screw driver cant reach it. im gonna trry the pliyer method

Pull and Pull and Pull, while a buddy pulls on the latch from the ****pit. It's just rust. Mine was recently stuck. Load it down with WD-40 when you get it open. Should solve teh problem for at least a year or two.....

Pull the handle out, then grab a hold of the cable with your hand, and twist down. That always worked for me until I got a new cable because it was down to about two strands, and was about to break.

Stuck Hood

Somewhere on this site, I got the answer I needed! What helped me was to soak the latch down with Blaster aerosol - not sure if thats a brand name, but the stuff is great! - I let it soak in about 1/2 hour, then pulled on the cable - for the first time in about 100 trys, the hood moved - only about 1/16", but move it did! I stuck my fingers under the hood and pulled up - low and behold, it broke free! - once open, I soaked it once again with white lithium grease - also aerosol. My thanks to this site! I hope it works for you!

Turns out the cable stretched and the inner part where the lever is inside the truck; well the plate bent in, so naturally more travel, the hood woulnt open. I took it to a shop and bought a new cable which ran me 43 bucks and then 35 for labor. It works like a charm now.
