Horn Beeps On Exit

I hate this feature as much as everyone here but before we hang anyone we need to confirm that NHTSA or another government agency didn't mandate this. Im at a Ford function this weekend I will throw an engineer up against the wall and get the answer.

Riley just kidding!

Then lets hang the NHTSA and/or another government agency in the town square :)

Can we bring in the guy who runs Revenue Canada too?

Just tried this. No horn when a passenger gets out and shuts the door.

Talk about annoying....

Every day when I leave work, I usually end up having to drop a few packages off at FedEx on the way home. I pull up out in front of the building, pop the hatch and go inside to grab the boxes... HONK HONK and there you have it everyone in the office knows I'm out front loading the EX... :(

Why don't I turn the truck off? Because the entire process is 15 - 30 seconds, extra wear and tear, we are in FL and I want it to start cooling down...etc..

This has annoyed me since we upgraded from the Limited to the Sport but I thought maybe it was just me....

That seems more logical Tony and what I would have expected. I haven't been able to try that because I'm the only one that is ever in the vehicle but it did sound strange to me to read posts about the horn beeping when a passenger gets out.

Ajar, just do what I do when stopping at our community mailbox. I just leave the door ajar! Sorry, couldn't resist that. I just don't fully close the door and the problem is solved.

I do the Ajar trick sometimes too. But the fact is often you're just jumping out of the car quickly for something and forget...then beep, beep.
It also doesn't take care of when your passenger gets out and closes the door behind them (All while the car still running and you in the driver seat with the key in your pocket).

Tony above said this doesn't happen when his passenger gets out. He has a "2015" was this feature changed in the 2015 model.
Can anyone else duplicate it with 2015 model.

I'm hoping that this feature was added by software not hardware and if there is a change in 2015 perhaps it's something the dealer can change via a software update for the 2014's

I tested mine this morning. I slid over to the passenger side and exited the vehicle with it in park and the engine running. As soon as I closed the door, I got the 2 beeps. Did the same thing again but this time I left the fob on the driver's seat and no beeps. This to me confirms that the horn should only sound if the fob exits the vehicle and door closes. This makes sense although I'd prefer it didn't sound at all in this exiting situation.

Since I don't have the keyless ignition on my Ex, I tried it on my Nissan Murano with the push button start. Guess what, it also makes a noise, but it is not the horn chirps, it is a much less intrusive noise, which, quite frankly, I really never noticed before I did it deliberately. So, maybe it is something that all keyless ignition cars are required to do.

Anyone else try it on a model other than Ford?

Well maybe it is... And in all honesty some sort of alert or a timed shutdown makes sense... But let's be clear here, this isn't a chirp as its been called in this thread several times. It's a loud honk honk. It's not the friendly - your sitting thru a green light - lets get moving honk either. It's a loud, wake up the whole house and the dog next door honk.

Nice one!! :D

I'm going to have to experiment with this when I remember. I work in a fairly busy downtown area so if I can leave the door slightly ajar but not obvious, it could work.

I've edited the thread title to better reflect the horn sound.

Peter

still doesn't explain why ours will honk twice when my wife gets out of the passenger side and shuts the door while I'm still sitting in the drivers seat with a fob in my pocket (engine off).

If a few of you who have this issue and one or two of you who don't (early 13 versus later 13 builds) get me your vin numbers I can examine the module data and see if it exists in there.

Jason

I did some research already on the Taurus SHO (programming setups are similar). I have an idea of what it may be. I suppose no one in Wisconsin complaining about this issue? LOL Otherwise if someone has access to IDS to program their vehicle I could have you try it.

Jason

According to the Ford rep. post 52 states it cannot be disabled or modified. From what I've read, it seems to be government (U.S.) mandated.

Peter

I can see a mandate for the driver's door to trigger the beep upon exit, but surely not the passenger seat. That just doesn't make sense. Of course, not everything makes sense.

Tony

If the passenger exits the vehicle and the fob is still inside, presumably with the driver, the horn doesn't or shouldn't beep. I confirmed that myself.

Park the car, turn engine "off", Driver remains seated in drivers seat, passenger exits the car first and closes the passenger door behind them (all before the driver opens their door!)..HONK, HONK.

This happens all the time in the above sequence (Engine "Off")...but this has also "occasionally" happened (same above sequence), only while the engine was "On".

I have a 13 Sport with a build date of Oct 2013.
