99 Explorer 5.0 Eddie Bauer. Living in AZ therefore I am starting my car in hot weather most of the year. This problem has been around for about 3 summers. Engine turns over about 10 - 15 times till it starts. If you stop cranking after 6-8 turn overs and start again it starts instantly. Had a mechanic look at it but got no real answer. Car starts fine up to about 80-85 F and then the issue comes up. No problem in cold weather. Was skiing this winter and the temp fell to -24 in the morning, started at the first crank. It kills the battery in no time, it 's Arizona
any idea anybody. Thanks

Have you installed headers, that could be exposing the starter to more heat than normal? If not I would start by checking the main power cable to the starter. Disconnect the neg cable at the battery. And then take the pos cable at the starter off and clean the stud and terminal ring. Pay close attention to this conector. While you are at it, I would also check the terminals at the starter relay. If you have over 100k on it, I would replace the starter relay for good measure. Do not forget to also check the grd cables.
