welcome to the site...... how hot is hot? it depends on who thinks it is hot....... how do your brake pads wear? the ford explroer is a heavy vehicle and it has very miniscule barely adequate brakes to begin with...

the wheels get hot enough that i cant hold on to them and the disks are too hot to touch

that seems feasable... not sure how hot those wheels should be getting..... but if the temperature is over 90 degrees to the human body, thats almost too hot for touch..... jsut htink that motor oil is about the same temeprature as boiling water....

What kind of wheels do you have? Alloy or Steel? Steel tends to transmit heat a lot more coming from the rotors. Alloy shouldn't get too hot that you can't hold on to it.

Check your Autolocking or mauale lockouts. Bearings might be hot. Plus Id check the rotors for cracks. A rotor gets too hot it cracks. And of course inspect the caliper and breaks
