how big of a tire with a 16" wheel is max on a 1st gen

i thought about going up to a 16" wheel just to get away from the tiny stock 15's but i have no idea what the max size tire i could fit on it. in help?

Standard answer on 1st gens is that you can fit about a 31 inch tire under there. Find a good tire calculator, but I think in a 16 that would be a 245/75/16 or 265/70/16 or similar.
