How do I remove the factory mirror tint???

I have a 1996 Eddie Bauer Explorer and I really like it, but it has those factory mirror tinted windows and I just hate it. I have the front tinted black and then with the factory mirror it doesn't blend at all. My Explorer is also black and the mirror looks horrible with that color. Can anyone please help - how do I remove that mirror tint or can it be removed?

if im not mistaken it is made into the window and can not be removed

I'm with Burns - I don't think it can be removed without replacing the whole glass panel

this may be correct however I dont understand why ford would/could sandwich the tint in between two molten layers of glass. i have a scratch in my tint on the inside of my 96 rear passenger window.. I can see thru it to daylight.. suggesting it may be put on exactly like aftermarket tint.


FWIW I think the mirror tint is the ****.. especially on black explorers

I thought some factory tint was sprayed on and the glass baked to glaze it.

its not like regular tint..if you want it gone find windows from a late '97 with black tint..or clear windows from a 91-97 XL explorer untinted.

i am very sure that the mirror tint is "built into" the glass.

not my tint.. its literally peelin off.

Then it must be after market. Don't think I have ever heard of factory tint peeling, since its not a conventional film on outer edge of the glass.

yeah its not a film..its in the glass.
