The mirror stuff is embedded inside the glass, you can't remove it in any way that I know of.

I was browsing the Sound Domain member pages and I came across an Explorer, a 97. I look at the pics, and the windows all look black and have 15% of window tint on all the glass. Using my large database of Explorer info that I have in my head (lol), I know that 97's came with the mirror-like curtesy glass on the rear windows. This guy claims that he just put the tint on despite the mirror glass, and by the looks of the pics, it worked beautifully. Here's the link:

97 Explorer

in this link he says that he used a K&N filter from a 94-95 Mustang that bolted right up. Is this true without any other mods?

I've thought about that too.. cos I know my kkm hasn't done anything for me.. infact I think it makes me lose power.

is this the guy with the green X on 20s? I emailed him once, pretty much all he said was to put tons of layers on it.. and then pretty much made the ocmment that he didn't like my ride.. oh well, good thing its mine and not his huh.

Some people! FEH! Maybe we should go "remove" the Explorer from him and redirect him to Chevy! :D

I like your ride just fine, man!

Yes, the guy on Sounddomain with the green Ex with 20's has solved the problem, but he used either 4 or 5 layers of tint, which is outrageous. Looks like it's plan B for me, which is just getting the front two windows mirror like to match the back. :(

im not real sure how all this tint stuff works, and ive been wanting to tint my windows.....

If i just put like 20% tint on all the windows...it should look the same just darker, correct? I guess ill just use smoke or whatever, not mirror or bronze or anything like that.

If the rear glass is the same as the 94's, the mirror shine will remain. The only difference will be that you can't see through it from the outside. I put 20% on my rear glass with the factory mirror tint and I cannot see into my EX at all from the rear, but can still see out very well. And yes, the rest of the windows should just appear darker. You really can't always go by what is on the package for the "bronze" or "mirror" tints.

Although under normal circumstances I would not recommend using their brand (simply because IMO I feel there are better quality films, but with the explorers, most are of us are trying to match the factory mirror tint) Walmarts highsest quality film does not say bronze or mirror on it, but it does match the factory "mirrorness" very good.

This may be more info than you needed, but FWI.....
