i have had my explorer go that fast..... gotta watch out for cops at that speed though... thats like instant jail time

So, 4000rpm with 3.73 gears and what size tires?

Reminds me of ME on the way to Great Falls before the SL and BL last March.

GPS=98mph

Wife wasn't happy so that didn't last long.

Tires are stock size....

95ish I'd say. Get a digital speedometer and you'll know exactly how fast you're going :D

duh....Your looking at the wrong gauge. The Fuel gauge clearly indicates 94.5mph! :D

did the car just stop accelerating at that point? might be 95 or even 100, it looks as if your spedo needle hit the bottom of the cluster and stopped.

OK, so;

4000rpm+.75:1 OD+3.73 gears+29" tires=

'Go to Jail, do not pass go!' :D

you need to get it to wind all the way back to 0 so it stops at the little rest for the needle...

i got my toyota tercel to go over 115 on the freeway on i5 back in the day.....

Me and my buddy used to race our explorer (he has a 94, I had a 92) and it would take forever to get that fast. Mine would never go past that mark in that picture either. Before anyone says anything about being unsafe to others, it was usually late at nite on a 4 lane straight away with no cops. Yes, it was even too boring for them to wait for a speeder.

I suppose the X's got a huge bit faster for the 2nd gens, cuz I don't have anything on my truck and just have the 4.0 OHV and i can hit 95 accidentally.

OHV '97 and I can hit 90 pretty easy, but never went over that. I was dead on with my buddy's F150 4.6extended cab long bed. We laughed at each other for a WHILE.

For us, that's pathetic that we actually raced them. I have a turbocharged 94 Mustang GT and he has a Fuel injected '70 Ford Torino 351C.
Top speed on those....? Dunno, they shut ya down on the quarter before I get there, lol.

my mod'ed 93 4.0 will go all the way around to the needle rest again ^_^ pretty easy she also runs in the upper tens on the 8th down at the track

haha So true! I got busted at 120mph racing! Jail time, Fines, and driving school! No fun at all! (well except the rush of 120mph! :rolleyes: )

I posted about this on another post in this section also. ;)

P.S. That was in my '97 Limited Explorer (5.0 V8)

i was mad when i found out that the jet chip still ouldn't let my explorer go past 116 mph, but it does get there a lil bit quicker. im guessing i could do around 130 or so, i had my 88 GT up to 140, with gears MAF conversion, offroad H, flowies, and pullies

all childs play:)
