If you're just messing around in a relatively flat dirt area (with AWD) how easy/hard would it be to flip the explorer? If you punch it just to spin out or mess around in the dirt, what are the chances of the X flipping over? Same question goes for driving in the sand (on the beach)...

This one rolled while doing slides in the dirt. He caught a piece of buried concrete and flipped him on his lid.

It can happen if the truck suddenly grabs traction as it's sliding.

Hmmm.... unlucky. It was also lifted too. My EB is all stock right now, no lift.

If you are trying to flip it on purpose, then it should be relatively easy to do. After all, a bunch of people have done it without trying:D

If you are driving within the capability of the vehicle, and using common sense (if it were really common, dont cha think a lot more people would exhibit it) then it isn't any easier (or more difficult) than a lot of other SUV's. I believe that NHTSA said as much in the report they did in the aftermath of the Firestone tire fiasco.

It must be pretty hard if I haven't done it yet

That's kind of a hard question, cause there are so many variables. If it's really hard, flat dirt, with no rocks or anything, it would be harder to flip than if the dirt was softer or there were rocks. A friend in High school flipped a jeep wagoneer by doing just that. He was messing around and slid sideways, and the tire caught a rock that was buried with a little bit sticking up. It would be easier to flip in sand. The less lateral traction you have, the less likely you are to flip, like messing around in winter in parking lots. You slide really good, but don't hit any dry spots.

i did donuts in my relatively stock explorer without rolling at thaven 2002.... but another lifted member on here rolled his doing the same thing the ear before..... if you goof off in anything, eventually it will catch up to you.... basically, if you are going to do it, you must expect that it may happen trust me.. i know.... look at avatar on left

i think the key here is to drive like the duke brothers , try not to drive like boss hogg. i have my 93 limited and i have taken a few tough corners relatively fast AVOIDING RETARDS WHO DONT KNOW HOW TO DRIVE, mine is all stock and it handeled quite nicely. im not saying you can take a 90degree corner or a hairpin turn at 80 or anything. I used to have a 87 bronco II , i took a corner doing 30 and all i could see was someones yard and a mailbox coming at me real quick-like. i didnt flip the truck though,i swear the tires (drivers side) were a good 4 feet in the air.i remember looking out the passenger window and seeing bits of gravel and pavement. O , did i mention the shocks were almost completely shot>?? hah

Not hard enough. Be carefully and take thing slow. I have 2 general rules that should be followed by all.:D
1. If ya can't afford it, don't wheel it.
2. If it isn't yours don't wheel it.
Wheelin mom's truck is all fun and games til you bring it with body damage. IF you make it home that is.

I have a friend who broke up with a girl because she 2 wheeled her Sidekick twice while he was with her.

The self-preservation instinct was stronger than the reproduction instinct. She must not have been all that hot. :D

Yep this is true. I've rode with him before and the closest we got was lifting a tire.

I'm lowered with an upgraded rear sway bar with collets on it and wide tires and I slide around turns and do donuts in dirt and dont even feel like I'm leaning.

I still gotta work on smokin' em on dry pavement tho... :D

Rolling Not fun!!!!

I rolled a 70's f-250 2wd once on a freeway interchange. Landed upside down. Only had lap-belts too. Walked away with a scrath on my forehead.

The best part is being still strapped in upside down with a gas tank behind you leaking out gas, while the truck is still running. And your thinking ....get me the **** out of here NOW!!!!

who's X was that on the top Rick? I have always wanted to know whos that was and what was done to it.

Thanks,
Patrick

My cousin rolled his '92 F-150 on 35's by doing donuts in a dirt field. Caught an edge in a rut and flopped it. Broke the windshield and the back window. He got cuts all over his face and neck from the glass.

Ex's are pretty hard I think. I took off my rear swaybar and could feel more body roll going around turns fast, but no where near to flipping.

rolled a 99 ford ranger extended.. after being broad sided by a 2000 excursion with a deer slayer... almost didnt walk away from that one...

be smart with your car.. its not a toy.. you really COULD hurt someone.

slow and low.. thats my motto.. haha.. or slow and off road smashin stuff.. thats cool too.

I feel like I'm going to roll everytime I take a corner!!! (no sway bars) JK

Hey Rick, did that X that flipped have a roll cage, was there much damage to the roof? Was it totalled?

Very little damage. It's now painted Viper red.

The guy is a weenie though. I could never get him to go out with us.

i have a friend who was just kill in a jeep rollover while hey were doing dounuts...... thats one thing i fear.... and my truck probley wouldnt take much to go over....
