i was thinking about getting a new serp belt to cut out the AC compresser and removing the entire AC system for less weight = more power reasons...

is the weight of the A/C worth the removal?

yes :)

Every pulley you remove helps, idle or not.
The total system weighs about #50 I would guesstimate. I did that exact thing 6 years ago when I went 4.0L, but now with the 5.0L I am re-installing it :)

too damn hot in the desert

rock on. i havent had a working AC since i bought the car and i wish i thought of this earlier.

my question to you is, the 'normal blowing' air isnt affected by me removing the A/C system is it? or in other words i can still have normal outside air or heated air after i do this?

The compressor is maybe 20lbs.............hoses, condensor, evaporator (if you go that far), reciever/dryer, etc...........I can't see more than maybe 30lbs.

The drag of the pully may help a little, but there is very little drag on a disengaged comp pully.

Personally, I would stick with having cold air when needed. :D

hrmm,

i think i might just remove the compressor. since i have to replace the entire system anyway (if i want cold air) then i might aswell take everything out, except i wont know where it all goes later =)

ill play around with this idea, if a serp belt isnt rediciously expensive.

You guys are crazy.. How can you want to take out the ac system. You say for power, but I mean really how much are you going to get? The X isnt a power machine. If it's not working spend the $$ to fix it. I just don't understand I guess.

the X is a power machine haha
