im almost a thousand miles over my oil change interval. i always change my oil at the 3000 mark just because i beat the cr#p out of my engine. anyway all my miles are highway miles and i just gotta drive home on sunday (about 300 miles) and then i want to chang emy oil once i get there. would it just be a better idea to get it changed before i go home ? sorry kinda stupid question but it will help

I think you'll be alright for the 300 mile trip home. I just wouldn't make a habit out of running 1300 miles over each time. Where I used to work, sometimes we were so busy that our delivery truck (Chevy 1500) would go nearly 5000 miles between oil changes and it's still running fine with 125,000+. If you have time this week to get it done, or do it yourself, then do it and you won't need to worry about it. But I'm sure you'll be fine this time, but to be safe and to be nice to your engine, :D don't make a habit out of it.

I've started using Quaker State synthetic oil (since, well, I'm sponsored by them, I should run their oil right?). I'm planning on taking it AT LEAST 5,000 miles in between oil changes.
By the way, I'm running QUaker State "Ultra Synthetic 5w-30"

My dad and I have always gone 5k miles between changes. He recently went to synthetic and now goes 10k miles.

Same here...we have always gotten our oil changed at 4k. Once I got the F-150 (oil changes are set at 5k) I moved the Explorer to 5k as well.

Runs great and saves some dough.
