Spending on tools with a lifetime guarantee is a good investment. You could always get a new tool if it breaks, but if you dump a ton of money into a vehicle, you won't get much back unless you strip it, and sell it for parts.

I've probably spent WAY to much money on my mountaineer in the year and a half that I've had it, and I'll never see most of that money again. But I don't care, I've had fun doing it, and it suits me and my driving style a whole lot better now. It's my baby and they'll have to pry it from my cold dead hands.

Of the 9 years of owning the 97 X I've only spent $2 for a Saz-All blade to cut open the rear inside door panel to get at the locking mechanism when it would not open To this day that hole is still there. Did not even bother to put the plastic panel back on. If it ever happens again, I'll be ready

Oh yea, $.50 cents for a hood support bar at my local salvage yard. No more falling hood due to badly designed hood struts.

But on the other hand, we won't go into the thousands and thousands spent of modifying the Bronco 2

i'm the 3rd owner, of my first explorer, and have had it for 13 months. I paid $3000 and have put approx $2500 into it this year, most in backed maintenance but some extras listed in my sig.
I've talked myself out of subs and a lift on several occasions.

EDIT: Added stuff and totalled the $$$. My mods are fairly minor, but I never realized how much I spent so far! I won't even start totalling my Mustang mods...
