'96 Limited/'78 Blazer
I really don't want to come off as someone who doesn't know their stuff, but, well, I'm a Chevy guy, for the most part. However, I have a good oppurtunity to acquire a '96 Limited for little or no money. I've looked into Blazers, ('73-'86) and same year Broncos. However, I have concluded that if I do not not take the Explorer I will definitely get a Blazer due to its rigid axle, and ease of lift. Now that we've moved past that, let's get to my question: How much money would it cost me to lift a '96 Limited enoguht to fit 44" tires? This may sound like they typical "Newbie" question, or that of an ignorant little kid, but I am neither.

Quite simply, I am a redneck, and I like big trucks. I plan someday on chroming it up and showing it. We have several trails in our area, however there is a certain part of one that only one person has ever crossed. He had a 1988 Ford F150 with 16" of lift and 44" Boggers. No one has been since abble to clear their rear differential over the plateau between the ruts. I love the look of big tires, and I want to cross that area. I don't need the price of tires, wheel or anything besides the straight axle conversion, the leaf springs, and shocks. Steering stabilizers are not badly priced, so don't worry about those either. All I want to know is simply, how much would it cost me to lift my Explored high enought to fit 44" tires with some room for travel, and have all drive shafts reach? I know it's possible, but if it is going to cost me $10,000 I think I'll buy a Blazer that already has 44" tires for about $5000.

Thank You,
Spartan

It will cost alot of money and I mean alot. If I were you I would go with the Blazer. Oh yeah welcome to the site. If its the explorer you really want go with it. It may be easier to lift a first gen. explorer. Take a look at OKnut's explorer. I think it is kinda what you are shootin for.

Thanks man, I also neglected to mention I would not need to pay for installation I can do that. I've seen conversions for Broncos for about $1800, but I don't think they make any for Explorers, so it would probably be a custom project. When I finished writing my previous post I realized that ya'll must think I'm crazy for trying to turn 44's with a 4.0 liter. I also have a 351 Cleveland at my disposal. So that would not be a problem either, but I reckon I'd have to do some engine mount welding. Thanks, and if you know of anyone with tires anywhere near that size on an Explorer that's be nice (other than the guy you told be about)

Here's my other option, for those of you wondering what the Blazer's I'm looking for look like
Thanks for any help,

No problem. I know what kinda trucks you like. My friends and I are in the middle of rebuilding my friends 79 F250. We kinda had a bad accident with it. But it will be done soon. Then is time to start building a 78 i think F350 with the extended cab. Man that will be a sweet truck.

darnit, where exactly my i find a pisture of OKNut's truck, i searched but i'm not goo good at that kind of stuff, sorry. yeah, those old F250's are nice, a little long on the wheelbase, but nice-did'nt they have a 460CI option, or did i just make that up?
Spartan

PS- did someone say "extended cab F350"?? http://www.wirelessxpressnc.com/truckforsale.html
THAT is an extended cab F350

I don't know for sure but I think the had an option for a 460. We put on in my Friends truck and Dana 60's front and rear, 44's and about 21 inches of custom lift and a bunch of other stuff.

that's an awesome truck! he must be an expert

how do you like the F350 I showed you?

I like it no dirty enough for me. The fords I like the most are pre-1980. They just look the best to me.

true, true, how about that blazer? hehe

Not bad for a Chevy:D There is some thing about Blazers and Bronco's on 44's that I don't like. they just look kinda funny. But that Blazer looks balanced out, I like it.

i think it's the rear that makes them look top heavy and real short. but you know that short wheelbase helps a lot

Not that anyone cares. . . but, I have to say I went with a Chevy. This is only 5 months later, but if anyone was wondrin here's what i bought/built.

yes, that explorer in the background was my other option i was referring to at the beginning of the thread. since then i have learned MUCH!

Looks like you made a good choice. Don't care much for the tires, but the truck looks good.

Looks Great! Now you just need a sick paint job, but not that the paint would matter much anyhow considering it seems as if it will covered in mud pretty often.

don't like the tires neither. . . that why next summer i'm gettin a 3" bodylift, and some 44" tsl or boggers. . .

That is a good choice!, I like my ex, but also a fan of the fullsize blazers. There's a guy here at home that is selling an 86 jimmy for 1500.00's:eek: I am thinking of picking it up. I once had a 78 ramcharger that had 13 inch lift, and rode on 44 inch gateways, I drove it from northern California down to Miami FL.
