Exactly how much oil is needed when changing the oil in my 95 Explorer 4.0? This is the first time changing my oil and I only have 5 quarts, plus my driveway is pretty inclined so it will be hard to tell. Thanks alot.

5 quarts is all you need.

I think the official ford capacity is something like 4.7L so 5 quarts is what everyone uses. It will still be well within the normal range.

Its a little bit more than 5 quarts.. I noticed that 5 quarts always seem to make it about 1/2 quart low.. Probably because of the oil filter.

Sounds like you need a new dip stick.

Either that or those 5 quart jug I have isn't 5 quarts..

Probably not a good idea to change the oil in your driveway if you have to raise the X. If its much of an incline thats dangerous.
Although you might become the first member lost in such a way.

You can do it as long as you choke the rear wheels...

Well I don't have to raise my truck at all. I can fit under it since its at stock height. But 5 quarts is the exact amount needed when changing the filter as well?

I have mine lowered 2" and STILL fit under there.

The techs here at my Ford dealership put 5.5 quarts in a V6.

i have the v8 and it need 5.5 or about

5!!!!! I always change my oil with 5, it runs perfect no problem with changing the filter. Good to hear your starting to change your own oil, you will save a lot of money.

Just put in 5 and a half quarts of Mobil 1 about an hour ago.

i am not to sure if that was a joke or not?
around here you can get a cheap oil change for $12 at a few places, but i use castrol seinthetic*sp blend, a fran filter so i a @ $12 right there

Na it wasnt a joke. But when you get a 12$ oil change dont they give you there oil, which probably wouldnt be synethic? But one thing I'm sure is that it saves time!

two reasons I have never used an oil change place
1. they use recycled oil
2. they use crappy generic filters

oh yeah and once an old lady I know went to get her oil changed and they bolted everything up and she drove our and ceased her engine just outside the driveway because they didn't put any oil in it...
