One of my suppliers has some good deals on Smittybilt and Ramsey winches right now so I think I'll pick one up. Is an 8000lb enough or should I be looking at the 10k units?

As for mounting options, I'm having custom bumpers made for front and rear. Are there any negatives to putting receivers in both bumpers and running the winch in a receiver mount?

8k should be enough as long as you aren't using it daily. The "general rule" is double what the vehicle weighs, so a 10k would definitely be better, but the 8k will be ok.

The receiver mounts is a great idea so you only need the one winch. They make them for that reason.

I had 8000lb Warn on a Bronco2 that doesnt way as much as an explorer and was wishing for more, if your vehicle can still spin the tires while winching it would do trick, but if your vehicle is broke its not gonna cut it. IMO go as big as you can afford, my next will be a 12,000.

Thanks guys. The cost difference between a 8 and 10 is less than $100 so I'm going to go for the 10K Smittybilt with synthetic cable.
