How to Disable ABS on 98+ but keep speedo/no cel?

No problem :) I miss more than my fair share. I do a lot of red eye forum reading myself.

yea i guess if you were going to try to disable the abs this would me a much safer alternative than switching into the abs controller...

are you being sarcastic?

nope im just saying that messing with the controller theres a better chance of messing something up

Think you could make a write-up with pictures?

i can try to take some pictures of which cable im talking about, after you cut the cable you will surely be able to take it from there... all you would have to do is separate the two cables and put connectors at the end of them so you can plug and unplug them... ill do my best to get a pic in the next few days

Ok, finally got some pictures of this.

All I did is splice into one of the wires, run 2 of the wires to a switch in the cab. Which is here... and is the switch on the far right

The wire that I spliced into goes from the hub, to the front of the truck just behind the bumper and plugs in here..

One of the plugs is for the foglights, and the other is for the ABS sensor. Just follow the right wire, clip a wire, attach a wire to both ends of the now cut wire, and route them up into the dash to a simple switch. Thats all there is to it. The pictures aren't the best, but its about a 30 minute job if you take your time.

Kinda confusing..

Crank your steering wheel hard to the left, and turn the truck off. This will lock the wheel in that direction giving you the most visibility. Look at the hub, from behind the wheel. You will see a wire loom running to it. Follow that loom to the front of the truck. It will come to a plug just behind the bumper. This is depicted in one of my pictures. Now, you can either, just pull the plug to disable the abs, or you can split the loom and come to the wiring. To go with the switch, pull one of the 2 wires out, doesn't matter which one. Snip it. Grab some wire. I went with 14 ga. wire. Get some connectors, you can use butt connectors, connect one end of the cut wire to a length of wire running into your interior to the approximate location of where you want to place your switch. Repeat that procedure again for the other end of the cut wire. Put some spade connectors on the end of the wire that you just ran to your interior and connect to the switch. Mount the switch.. You are done. It is not hard. I can literally do this again in about 5 minutes. The hardest part will be choosing a location for the switch. This is all splicing into the wire on the driver's side of the vehicle. All you are doing is breaking the connection. When the switch is on, the connection is closed, allowing normal ABS functions. With the switch off, you are breaking the connection, disabling ABS. Just follow the sensor from the wheel, cut 1 of the wires, and add a switch inline.

Doesn't matter which wire? What kind of switch? Anything I need to know about certain X rated switches?
X = amp, watt, idk.. I don't know electrical stuff too well.

Just go to the auto parts store, pick up a 12 volt, 30 amp switch, which is pretty much the standard, of your choice. It doesn't matter which wire, as I said you are just interupting the signal. There really shouldn't be that much current going through there.

thats pretty much exactly what i was trying to explain, but instead of fixing it like i did he put a switch in which is what everyone trying to disable the abs wants... nice job hunter

Any side effects of disabling ABS this way?

I used to just pull the plug behind the bumper, but just decided to throw the switch on one day.

Dan

I think I understand now, the plug Right Next to the plug for the fog lights? Which are just hanging at my bumper right now, so I don't have to do any searching. =)

Yes, if you pull that plug, your ABS light will come on and you have just disabled your ABS. Now, you could just unplug it, or you can put a switch inline.

Dan

Isn't there two of these plugs? Next to each fog light plug?

did that abs help you out today?

did abs kick in when you hit that ice? maybe somehow your engine shut off to save your life... has anyone been able to explain why your engine cut out?

I didn't apply the brakes, and it wasn't ice... =\ No idea about the engine.
