Radio shack had a switch. Any On/Off switch will work. Any wire will be fine.

Now the bigger question.. where to put the switch...

Just plug and unplug the connector.

Check the pictures that I posted earlier, easy to reach, and an easy to wire area.

Hey, new idea sorta.

There's a switch under my dash near the OBDII plug for my autostart.. would it be safe to use that switch for the ABS killswitch? I was thinking I'd cut the autostart wires and connect them.. I don't see any reason it would need to be turned off anyways... would this switch be safe to use? It's already mounted and everything.

Dan?.. Do you know if this would be a good way to do this?

The switch is a two prong rocker.

I would rather do this than use another switch, because this is already mounted and is in a good almost hidden location.

Again, yes that switch will work. No, it won't wire itself.

Alright, I'm going to do it later today.

Does anyone know why they always put a switch to kill the autostart from working? Every vehicle I've seen with an autostart (astrostart anyways) has a switch installed.

Success!

I assume if there is a faulty to the remote start you can cut the power to it.

Weird problem, my ABS light kicks on often when I use 1 and 2 gears.. this only started happening after I wired my switch up. It'll go back off when I restart, but when I use 1st n 2nd... mainly 1st.. it kicks on..

I think I found the problem, the way I have my wires connected to my switch.. Right not the wires are connected.. The switch is disconnected.. I'll know for sure if this is the problem after more testing tomorrow.

I think it was just coincidence it would kick on after using 1st n 2nd.

I've been considering this for driving in sand/dirt...quick stops are almost impossible. I know hunterdan's had success, but how about storlied? I'd think that if you are happy with it then i would be too. I read the whole thread but am a little unsure, i just want to clarify once and for all, with the ABS deactivated will the speedo still work?

Yes, the speedometer still works, you are basically faulting out the ABS system. I actually think this mod kept me from rolling when I was hit in March and my truck was totaled. Instead of the tires maintaining traction with the road, they were already locked up and sliding, so I was able to just slide with the impact and still steer it to safety. Where as, if the tires had grip, it might have been enough to roll me on my side.

Works fine for me, mine is currently disconnected because I changed my hub assembly which I tapped into.. Haven't gotten back to re-wiring it.. but I need to.. I hate having no ABS kill switch.. lately when I go out to the ice track, I'll go out and manually disconnect one of the wires... but yeah... works fine for me.. all gauges are good to go.. but as mentioned.. the only downfall to this mod is you have to restart your truck to turn ABS back on.. I've gotten used to it.. it actually doesn't even bother me because I prefer to drive without ABS.

The Speedometer problem is for 97 and earlier I believe.

Thanks a lot both of you. It's on my list of things to do.

Success!! I'll just add what i found during my install...the wire that comes from the ABS sensor behind the spindle looks to be one fat black wire, it's actually a cover over two wires, a black one and a brown one. This may have been obvious to those who've done this previously but it wasn't to me, so just thought i'd mention it. I cut into the brown wire right at the plug below the headlight behind the bumper...it took me a little while to get that figured out until i pulled back the rubber piece right at the plug. I ran my wires up behind the headlight, behind the battery and over the fender well into the firewall through the white colored seal below the steering shaft.

hows it working so far.. i might have to do this. i hate the abs in the snow
