I am a newbe. Have a 94 4dr with 200,000 miles. Would like to lessen the possibilty of rollover. What is recommended in the area of lowering kits, wide profile tires, widening the stance etc? I am an old geaser and can do the work myself, but I haven't done any serious car mods since Mobey Dick was a small mouth bass. THanson

Welcome to the site.. The Ford Explorer is not rollover prone.. It was the tires & the operator of the vehicles overcorrecting themselves. You can add some heavy duty sway bars, it'll help considerably. To be perfectly honest, your better off lifting a 1st gen explorer.. Then again I prefer lifting trucks over lowering them.. :D

One of the site's sponsors ExplorerExpress.com sells some really nice sway bars for Explorers. You can buy a block for the rear to lower it(since it is spring under axle) and get some lowering coils for the front. Like Blee said, it was the tires and the operator's mistakes that caused all the rollover stuff. Is yours 2wd or 4wd?

Welcome to the site, rollover is a massive steroptype of the x, I have had mine on 3 wheels around corners :burnout: with a 3" lift and have yet to roll it knock on wood :hammer:

Compared to my old Rodeo, my explorer feels a lot less tipsy around corners. I wouldnt mess around with the ride height much, but I would add some stiffer shocks. Some KYB monomax or rancho RS 5000s.
