Im not sure if I know what you mean. Tear what thing up, and what backing? If you mean what is the cloth connected to its a white plastic panel. The cloth is held on by spray adhesive and staples on the back.

so, the form (the piece that makes the shape - you put batting in there, then wrap it with a covering) is plastic? I saw the other pics, but thought maybe those were custom fabbed from everwho you bought them from.

Are they thick at all? I may just machine my own if that's all there is to it....

It worked guys, I was able to get the door insert off without breaking anything this time, haha. What I did was I used a Mini Torch and the Door Panel Tool, the mini torch to heat up the back of the pin so the door panel tool could pull it out without breaking anything. It worked great, I had the whole thing off in ten minutes. This would work for the speaker grill too Donner if you wanted to try and remove the other ones in your truck. Just if anyone does this wear a breathing mask, plastic fumes aren't exactly healthy.
I wanna ask your guys opinion though on how to get the pins back to being straight. I know I can heat them up and try to shape them, but what would be the best thing to try doing this? After they are straight I'll use a quarter-sized branding iron to seal them back up. Here are the pics:

offhand, what I would do is find a tool sale or flea market. I would buy something that looks like pliers, but doesn't have that "hole" in the middle. Then, I'd clamp that in a vise, find me a drill bit the exact size as the shaft, and make me a tool to refurb them. Might consider bending the handles so your knuckles get some room....

Wow good idea! I might put a twist on that and use a pair of linesman style pliers and drill in the top, this way its almost like a surrounding mold. What I might try to do first though is melt the top of the clips again and force it back in the hole.
