they are glued on.
To take them apart is to break them apart

?

You're going to crack these things open, change the inerts, then sell them? What will you be replacing them with? Are they very expensive?

instead of putting the regular bulbs i'm gonna put led's in these on a board facing forward. thats why i need to crack these open. and i'll pant the board crome so you wont the the color of the board threw the housing i can get the led's for like $15 and will put 5 leds on a array. a total of 25 leds on each side (left and right side). their gonna be 10mm 70,000mcds ambers

Got it...

To reseal those things seem like a pain... those are weather proof too. How would all of that stand up to the weather in your area?

That doesn't sound like a risky project, but it's just the resealing might not stand up... I thought those things were compressed together using a pretty serious epoxy to avoid leakage and breaking, no?

Im liking the idea, can we get some pics as you go?

To reseal them Id personally use grey silcone from Ford, its what we use to seal oil pans on 7.3s. Good stuff.

well i did the led's puddle lights and they work ok in the winter so far, they light right up. i think its the same type of sealant they used for the puddle lights. i have the euro stye housing so thats why i'm gonna try with the stock ones. nd i will glue the boar to the "reflectors" inside i was gunna re-seal it with RV weather/water proof sealant. i will be sure to post pics when i'm dont

when resealing it just put it where they did, then will us clear silicone around the whole crack and wipe down to make it it smooth

Good deal! That sounds safer... and very creative too. Alright, I'll wait for pics too.

When I had my 89 Vic, my dad broke the driver's side taillight. When the part came in, I noticed I only received the lens, and not the whole light piece, but I couldn't figure out how to get the dang thing apart. The lens seemed to be glued into the fixture itself. Since my dad broke it, I made him fix it. :D He used a screwdriver and gently pried between the lens and the fixture. (The fixture is plastic, too!) IIRC it came out without much trouble, though I do seem to remember some broken lens pieces. I can't say for certainty whether it came out in one piece or not.
In order to affix the new lens in the fixture, it came with a roll of black sticky stuff that I just laid down in the fixture where the original lens was glued in. Pressed the new lens into place and bingo, looked just fine. Had the car for 4 years like that after with no issues at all. I'm not sure what that black sealer is or is called, I think I still have a little bit of it left somewhere but it's probably hard as a rock now.

Don't know if that helps, I guess the lenses are really a "one-time-use" thing.

When I used to be on escort boards a lot of people would take their headlights and stick'em in the oven on warm to warm the glue and everything up so it would come apart easier. Not on like 350 for 4 hrs or anything, just on warm for a lil while to soften the glue. Could try that, just don't let the wife catch ya...

well their is NO way to break apart the two but i do have a different idea on to get the led's in their i'll post pictures later of how i'm going to take them off. although most people might wanna do it.

the reason why you cant break them apart is cause theirs no room to pry (bad spelling), even on the spot where their is a little gap their isn't enough room it will break the lens.

thats a great idea, i'll try that before i try the other thing

They have to be destroyed...

they are glued on.
To take them apart is to break them apart

:( It has to be put down now... Those things are tough. Don't cetch yaself afaya... stay safe!

well what i was gonna do it cut part of the housing, not where it mounts or anything and put the leds boards in and glue them them epoxie the part i cut back together then silicone over the top of it. well i do still have the driver side corner i could try? but i cant really just sell one

Not a problem

They're projects... expensive, but projects. I have a few hundred dollars in parts that didn't work out in boxes now. Especially the "universal" fit products, they can be tough. So what's plan B?
