I am trying to figure out how to remove the carrier and gears out from the differential. I am planning on selling the gears if someone could use them so i don't want to bang them up much. Does anybody know how this can be done?

Thanks

I have always used a big pry bar to pop it out. jam it in the carrier and then use one hand to pry on it and then use the other to old the carrier so it doest fall on the ground.

I have also heard of people jamming a rag between the pinion and ring gear then turning the pinion so it sucks the rag between the ring gear and pinion. I tried this version but wasnt very succesful so I broke out teh 3 ft prybar like I had used before.

I use a prybar. It's easier.

sometimes the carrier bearings are preloaded enough to where the pry bar feels like it isnt enough, but it will definatly get that sucker out.

try prying on the heads of the ring gear bolts against the side of the housing. that will definatly get some budge in there.

Thanks guys! I got that sucker out by wedging a tie rod removal tool on the upper part of the carrier and the diff casing. Had to use a rubber mallet to pound on the end and it finally came out! Gears look really good and plan on selling them. Ring/pinion/open carrier

rear differential

I had the rear main axle bearing replaced then the entire rear differential rebuilt and drive wheel bearing replaced. ! all within the last 3 months ! I undersatand there are alot of problems with the rear differential this year 2004, Now a 6 inch bolt and rubber bushing dropped out of it in my driveway . It appears to be a stablizing blot or some sort of mouting bolt ! Towed it to the ford dealership and the replaced it at a cost of 120$ but then only charged us for the bolt assembly $40. lucky ME ! I think It was fatiged from being removed several times before , what caused it to drop was the top stamped nut sheard in half
