Hi all. Last year, I replaced my 93 Ranger with a '05 FX4L2 auto. I tinkered with the A4LD thanks to Glacier's thread, but other things went south too.

I was wondering if anyone has given much thought about how you might rig a new truck to keep the trans in good shape.

One particular remote filter looked worth mentioning here:
http://www.magnefine.com/
One retailer claims: "These are the same filters provided by Ford with their remanufactured transmissions as mentioned in TSB #00-3-8."

My truck doesn't have any room under the hood for a remote canister filter. I'm thinking that this in-line part will mount nicely next to the OEM cooler, in front of the radiator.

A google search for that brand, turned up some other BBS boards. The Powerstroke-guys seem to like them, and it showed up on a Mazduh board also.

So this filter, plus what else is cost-effective? Syn fluid, replace the pan filter, put in a honest drain plug kit... outlet temp sensor (anyone recommend a good gage kit?)

also a better trans cooler and a temp gage on the trans fluid is a GREAT idea

Autometer makes excellent trans temp gages, mechanical or eleictrical you choose (electrical is easiest for a trans temp IMO)

You can run two stock coolers in series or you can replace the factory cooler with a more efficient aftermarket.

Synth fluid is expensive, mercon V is expensive enough and will do the job, you can add Lubeguard addative for additional protection

would this work for a 98 ford explorer?

these theories work for all vehicles with automatic transmissions, whether is a car truck, motorhome, etc......

So yes
