I just replaced the oilpan today and there was bits of yellow plastic and thin pieces of metal ih the pan anyone know offhand which tensioner this would be without tearing it all apart any help would be great it's a 99 4.0 sohc

I just went through this.............

While the engine is out... yes it needs to come out. REPLACE THEM ALL.... front , rear, balancer........they all come in the set, Make sure they have the correct tools to do the job.the Ya-whos , who did mine bent a lot of valves . then tried to say is was not related to what they did. Its gonna cost ya,, so be prepared...

Where is the rattle?

If you have pieces from your timing chain cassettes in your oil pan then you should have been hearing chain rattle. Is the rattle in the upper right rear, upper left front or lower center front?

Look at the components in the following thread for possible matches: SOHC Timing Overhaul with Part Numbers, and Pics plus extra parts

Jack Shaft Tensioner

I'm doing timing repair right now.The thin bits of metal are from the jack shaft tensioner or primary tensioner as it is also called.Failure of these is very common (lots of pics of them on here).Your front left cassette will no doubt be cactus as well. If its not it will be very soon.
