How to turn lights off when idling

When I pull into a parking lot and want to just idle, waiting for someone, how can I turn my lights off? I have a 2016 Ford Explorer Sport. The daytime running lights are set, I turn off the lights (take it off auto). I have even gone into settings and turned off auto daytime running lights and that didn't make any difference. My outside edge lights are still on. How can I turn them off when I am just idling??? HELP....

If you have turned off the DRLs in setting and the headlight switch to off I don't know why they would still be on.

Im wanting to know how to get the LED strip to stay on anytime the truck is on. w/o using the parking lights. For has this on the mustangs and every other SUV manufacturer has this option. It makes no sense to my why the LED strips on the ExSport aren't the same.

Are the LED strips the DRL? On my MKT, the fog lights are set as the DRL and they go OFF when the vehicle is put into 'Park'. Is that what you are experiencing with the LED strips?

No the LED strips are not the DRLs. There is no way to turn these strips off that I know of if the car is on. Maybe the dealer can do it on there level but I haven't been able to find a way...

I don't have my Explorer any longer but it seems to me that the same scenario may have also existed with my 2011. It didn't matter to me. Is there a reason you want everything off? It's not hurting anything having the marker lights on.

See that white strip. I don't want it on, when just idling. For instance I need to keep the car running to keep warm, and don't want my lights on while I wait.
There should be a way to turn it off, isn't there???

The impression I'm getting here is that there is no way to turn these off if the engine is running. Are any rear lights on as well?

From the service manual:

Signature Lighting

The headlamp LED signature lamps system consists of an illuminated ring surrounding each headlamp assembly on 3 sides. The signature lamp Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) are integrated into the headlamp assembly and are not replaceable.

The signature lamps illuminate when the ignition is in ON or START. The signature lamps operate at a reduced intensity when the parking lamps are activated.

Thank you everyone for your comments. I will just idle with those lights on....they are cool.......but sometimes I don't wish to be cool. I love my Explorer, so they will just stay on.

No I do not believe my rear lights are on, but I will double check.

See this is what I want...but I'm pretty sure mine are never on unless the parking lights or headlights are on.
If they are supposed to be on anytime the truck is in the run/start, mine don't do it!

Engine on, in daytime light, light switch set to autolamps: Signature lamps are OFF.

Engine on, in daytime light, light switch set to off: Signature lamps are ON.

Engine on, in daytime light, light switch set to parking lamps: Signature lamps are ON at reduced intensity.

Engine on, at night time, light switch set to autolamps: LED low beam and Signature lamps are ON.

Having DRL enabled or disabled makes no difference.

So if you want your Signature lamps on during the daytime, turn your light switch to OFF.

If someone else wants to perform these tests, we can compare results.

Most vehicles if you apply the e brake or parking brake it will kill the drl's. Canadian ones too.

Good info. This appears to be the way my 2016 XLT is too.

I need to check this one. Does the Explorer need to be in "P" or "D" or doesn't matter:

****added note, light switch set to autolaps, when remote starting, LED tail lights on and LED signature lights also on.

Nice real word testing.
I will assume this is not applicable to vehicles sold in ON, CANADA, as DRLs are mandated and has to be on at all times (whether it be the LED strip, LED low beams or fogs).
