I don't have a manual for my 96 Ex, but was wondering how to disable the automatic door locks. The doors lock when it is running and put into gear. I figure there is a simple way to disabla this, but like I said, I don't have a manual. Thanks.

Hi

try the follow ->

open the car with the remote control and put the key into the lock, but don´t turn!
The next 8 steps must within in 30 sconds. Turn the key into the ignition position.
Press 3x the unlock switch to unlock
Turn back the igniton-key into the strip away position (but don´t strip away!)
press again 3x the unlock switch to unlock
Turn the key into the ignition position
now " chirps " the explorer short to report over that he feels well
Press 1x the unlock switch to unlock
Press 1x the unlock switch to lock
He "chirps" again
Turn the key to the strip away position (but don´t strip away!)
Now your Explorer will chirps again to tell you, he apprehended the code.
Last step, you must wait at least 1 minute (no joke)

I hope, this will help. It´s runing with my ´98 Explorer. This should be run with all
Explorer build 1997 to 2001 with automatic transmission and the most Explorer
build 1995 to 1997.

If you have to pinch off your batterie the adjustment will maybe lost, but you can repeat it again and again.

you didn't mention if you were solely using the factory keyless entry or aftermarket alarm.

Hi

sorry, but what you are meaning with "aftermarket"...?

ciao

I ended up doing it a different way. I entered my code on the door, then pressed and held down the 7/8 key, then hit the 3/4 key, then released the 7/8 key. The horn beeped once and the auto lock was disabled. Thanks for the info though, I don't know if it is different on the 95-96 than the 97+. I figured I'd post what worked for me incase it might help someone else out.

i think i may have accidentally disabled my auto door locks, does anyone know what the procedure is to make them work again?

I know this is old but just because...

Edit:
Press unluck 1x to unlock
Press LOCK 1x to LOCK

you don’t have to bother with the fob or keyless entry (I don’t have either one) just unlock from inside and follow the steps.

The "hold 7/8 and press 3/4" keys works to enable or disable the auto locks.

Many Explorers have door lock switches that don't work, using that other method will require fixing the switch(wiring) first.

This is the absolute best write up I can find. Great job and still appreciative. Still valid with my ole 96 Ford.
