I've search all the web and this website. Only thing that I have found that might make it work is the PAC interface. Has anyone used one of these on there X? I want the rear controls to work w/ a different HU but need someone to post how they got there's to work....

I've got an 02' sport w/ the standard radio HU (no 6disc).

I'll be getting the JVC KWXC777 HU if that helps.

Any help would be appricated
adam.

i'd be interested in this process too.....

I'm not aware of anybody that has tried this but I'm guessing it would take a lot of work.

y not just velcro the remote to the back of the armrest? that way the passengers can change it if they want?

i'd love to see someone do this. they would be smacking them selves of the amount of work. plus you have to get a HU to support the rear controls.

The problem with the Explorer rear audio controls is that they are a remote part of the HU itself. In some other vehicles, remote controls simply manipulate the speaker outs of the HU and this type can be configured pretty easily for aftermarket HUs. This isn't the case with Explorers. You can think of the rear controls are part of the HU and when you replace the HU with an aftermarket one, you are bypassing the rear controls all together.

The only way I see this happening is actually getting into the internals of the HU and the rear controls and linking them up somehow. More work than its worth.

I remember seeing an interface on Autotoys.com for Ford controls and Sony HU's at one time, but I haven't seen it in a while.

The Sony's are the only ones I know of that come with a wired remote interface, which is the only way to make it seamless. The others use an IR remote, which, to me, seems like much more trouble than it's worth, but I guess no one else is going to voice THAT opinion ;)

OKay here is an idea. I have an 88 BII so I have never played witht he fancy shmancy rear audio controlls you guys have. One question, Does the rear seat audio control just effect the rear speakers???

If you need something that will change tracks, discs, and volume from the rear seat many companies make a wired remote for their headunits, some of them mount on the sterring wheel etc, you can use this sucker in the back, or firure out the wiring from the Explorer switches and splice them into the HU controller, make sense?

OR

If you just need a volume control for the rear speakers you can get a line level dial and run your rear speaker RCA's or high level speaker wires through it.

Personally I hate factory systems, they have been getting better in recent years, but they are impossible to upgrade because everything is matched and the amp is serperated from the deck, etc etc etc. I say rip it all out and start with all aftermarket stuff, or go buy an 88 truck hhahahahahaha.

If I ever do buy a new car.truck (doubt it rather build old ones) I will get one w/o a stereo, heck they charge you $2000 for a "premium" sound package anyways that still soudns like crap when you turn it up.........$2000 goes a long way at Car toys......
