how to wire a preformance tach???

ok, i got a tach from a buddy of mine!
usually u would hook it up to a V8, and one without a coil pack. but i got a 4.0 in mine, and it can be set up for a 6 cyl.
im wanting to know how to hook it up!
we are some what baffled, so i figured i would ask the best of the best!

MSD makes a coil pack for a distributorless system. They might make a control module too. If so, then it would have an output for the tachometer.

Whats wrong with the factory tach, your not drag racing this or anything.

take out your battery look in front of it there is a wirring harness splice in to the pink wire with a brown stripe and it should work thats what i did thats were the book says to put it

no im not draging it, but i think they look aweosme, and i jsut installed a 5speed, so i thought it would be sweet to have one!

khowerd: u think u could show mw a diagram, of this? i dont have the ex with me, so i cant run out and look at nuthing. and im not sure when i will be back with the ex, ibroke it so its sitting at the parents!

93 explorer tach wire is not pink, its natural (tan) with yellow

You can find it at the OBD-1 diagnostics port under your hood, you can also find it behind your factory tachometer.

This wire (tan/yellow) is the signal from computer to tachometer

thanks 410, im planing on taking the tach outa the dash, jsut pulling out the needle, and painting over the numbers or something so its not there! u think taking the wires from that and using them for the new tach wold work???
the new one has 4 wires, on of those are for the ground, and one for a pos, i think, and i cant remember the other one, and the last one i believe is for the dimmer!
sooo, will jsut using the old taqch wires work? or will i have to re wire it????

was doing some thinking, and im planing on doing away with the tach in the dash! would all the wires i need be on that one? or no??? thanks!
and waht would be the best way to make that dash tach not be there! like make it visibly not.....visible....
