Ok this the setup im running now

th_81173_System.jpg

Kinda massive :D but anyways i'm thinking about taking it all out and building a box with the 4 10"s facing down with a some kind of flooring over it so that ill have some storage room.

So my question is how would it sound?

Thanks Anthony

Ok think of your subs as you would your mouth. You speak and how does it sound? Ok. Now everyone at once while speaking put your hand over your mouth. Good, we are all tracking.

The previous post made no sense, at all.

It's impossible to tell how something sounds by just a picture. Got freq. response graphs? How are they crossed?

Based on driver placement, you probably are losing quite a bit of efficency by having such a big space in the middle. You are probably gaining a bit of power by having them arrayed like that. You *almost* have a line source.

But hey, this is car audio, all you need is a big boom.

I bet the ladies love it ontop of that box. just a though i had no input sorry

I used a line somewhat like that several times. I would say "jump in the front seat. I bet it'll make your ti***es shake" he he he. It works. And they do shake.

The box is actually split into two smaller boxes two subs per side which hints the space in the middle is where i put a double wall for support and stability.

Im running a JBL 1200.1 but has two outputs so i have two subs run to each output. And this thing does pounds and sounds really good.

As for the "mouth" thing kinda makes sense but ive seen alot of setups this way. And if it doesnt sound so good then whats a better setup for four 10"s and keep alot of storage space.
Im not looking for max SPL but i do want it to be loud and sound good. SHould i port or what?

This is a box with 4 JL Audio 10's. I hit 160 in a DB Drag.

Subs: 4 JL w0 10' wired for *I THINK* 2ohms

no it sat on top of the wells .. I dont have any pics while it was in my 97' X .. but it had about 1.5 - 2.0 inches of space on each side. and a custom " lip was made so it did not slide backwards ( its back was against the backseats ).

I had enough space to put a large ice chest " lenght wise " in the back.. really.. i had 2 in there.

160 in dB Drag? I do not mean to sound like a jerk, but do you have a link to the event to back that up? I just cannot imagine you putting up a 60 with that box. Yes I might be able to imagine a 50 with those subs, but definitely not in that box. The port area is way too small.

[ I understand your not being a jerk ]

humm.. I just checked the site that I remebered hosted the events down here(www.whitlee.com) and I dont see anything about any kind of " bump off " events.. but if it makes you feel better I can take pics of my 1st place trophys? Lol other than that.. I think I lost my sheets from the comp. but if i can find them ill take a pic.

btw, i am sure it was a little help from above that I hit 160.. because it was raining off and on all day. ( dencer air = more compression? )

oh.. also .. it did not break the plane of the port.. but it was not on the dash either.

Objectively speaking Whitley scores are usually higher than those from the major SPL competition organizations with similar setups. I was never doubting the enclosure's abitlity to get loud, just that specific score. If you were ever into designing a new enclosure for those subs I would highly recommend a much larger port. Out of curiosity what are you tuned to? If you're not sure does the enclosure accentuate the higher or lower bass more?

I wish i knew.. I did not build the box.. just watched :) but i at least installed the subs and everything else :)

and its been allmost 2or3 years since I have been in one.. which is why w0's were getting 1st :)
