Change Of Plans.....

so http://seattle.craigslist.org/pts/144731829.html

i saw that. i know its geared wrong, but i talked to the guy he said it is a driver side drop. does anyone know the bolt pattern on these? What else component wise would go with this? i can see that its coils, which is what i want, but that is my first step. now i am lost as to what other components i need. a steering box?

thanx
Chris

its a d30 front d35 rear, are you just gettin the front?

why the hell would you buy a dana 35 axle. keep looking for a 44 man. your truck is a dana 35 ifs front, and with the way you drive, you'll break it in a heart beat.

They never made a D35 front axle in a Jeep.. It was either a D44, D30, D27, and D25.

im just gettin the front? the way i drive? no way. plus im not going bigger than 33 in tires, and 4.10 gears. im pretty sure this axle can handle that. but yeah im still listening for opinions, im lost when it comes to sas i know nothing about axles and components....

go for it, you should be fine if you goin to run 33's, i know quite a few jeeps running on 35's or 36's and dont have any problems, so i dont see why you would

thats what i think too. im going more for flex on my 33's then i am clearance. this is still a dd so thats why i am stickin to 33s. cheaper. well i will call the guy and go check it out. this just might be the beginning of my sas, depending on if i can find someone with a welder. if not then this will be pushed back a lil...

okay.....there were some d44's on the list for a reasonable price. what you will need is a steering box, trac bar, radious arms, coils and a welder. The coil setup imo is pretty difficult, thats why im going to do a leaf spring set up. The biggest issue your gonna have is with the steering set up.

well i am also gonna check the pull a part near me. im set on coils. i hate the way shackles look. i cant decide between the 30 and 44, i heard both very sound arguements, since im stayin with 33s. i think i will go 44 in the event i get a new truck and this is a trailer queen, thus 35s+. anyways, just bouncin some ideas around...

if it temparary, sure go for the 30. But if a 44 is avialable for a bit more, go for the 44. What are you going to do about regearing the transfer case?

I just thought about this, i noticed u have a v8 and i personally wouldn't want to put a dana 30 under something with v8 power. thats just that much more strain put on it.

well i have a few new things and concepts i have to learn b4 i start this. one is financial management. i blow money and never know where it goes. Well i get a raise this month and it pretty much covers my ring payments a month. so i decided to double my ring payment, and one other loan and pay them off, one in 5 months, the other in 5 after that. i am on an 17 month timeframe, because my new dell is on 18 months no interest, so for this 10 months, i will pay the minimum on that. after i have those first two paid off, i will take the remaining balance, divide by 7 and pay that off b4 i start paying interest.

I dont know why, but i was reading this forum about what ppl did for an sas, and i kept trying to find the cheap way to do it. But, if i can pay those debts off, in 18 or so months, i can really afford a nice worthy setup. There is another payoff to this too, i go on a 4 month deployment early to middle next year, this means my wife doesnt have to pay more bills. More then that, my pay takes a nice increase while out, if i put all that increase in a fund for this sas, i can build it how it should be build, to withstand time and eventually MOAB. well gtg for now, just had to hear this idea one more time.

later guys

Chris

we all blow money off and never know where its gone.....we're guys.

I'll throw you estimate of how much its going to cost for an SAS (well for me at least)
BW4406 t-case= 300
D44 HP( i have a lead on a Dana60 from a newer ford so i may buy that)= free
First gen Explorer steering box= 50
Regearing= 150
Welder= borrowing a friends for the time bieng
extra metal etc= 50
Drive Shafts= 250

total estimated build cost 800. I factored in a 200 dollar possible increase, so worst case scienerio is a grand.

What about coil springs(or leaf springs), shocks, coil buckets, etc.???

im going leaf springs, shocks i already have....i took all 6 of my rancho shocks out my diesel blazer before i sold it

Cool. What are you doing in the rear? Even with that 44, you'll need atleast spacers. If you went with a D60, it just wouldn't be right to not go atleast to a 60 in the rear (or get a 10.25, 14 bolt, etc) Man, that's a nice setup. A 302 Explorer sitting on d60's. :D What size tires are you going with?

I'll start a new thread cuz i dont wanna hijack Chris's. But just to answer your question, spacers are a possibility. Cuz at the end of the swap i'll be nearly broke, i'll be swapping the rear end out in septemeber when i have more green. I plan to pop in a 99- newer ford superduty rear axle, the 10.25, cuz it has disks and is damn strong. Tires again limited by green will be 37's prolly at most. But im gonna stick with 33's till i get back to school in septemeber cuz tires in Canada (used) are waaay cheap and i'll save some money instead of buyin em at home in ohio.

for me it was over a $1,000 just for gears, install kits and the inespensive lockers. throw in the tires and wheel for after the swap and your already in $2,000.
